More people run icons as well. There's probably a handful of people here running 6112/5160s compared to the other brands. I'm just giving you shit lol.

I'm running the same setup with a Dakar leaf pack. Love it.

Read this whole thread just now.

    2 things

    1) OP handled this situation very well, no blaming or calling companies out. Just looking for answers

    2) @HeadStrong Off-Road knows what they are doing and has great customer service. Though tbh that isn't a surprise given how often they are recommended on here.

If I eventually upgrade my lift I know where I'm buying parts :)

Glad this worked out for all parties involved

None, just street going to work and back. All asphalt. Hadn't had them long enough to take them off road yet.

I'm not sure I'd write off billstiens based off of a couple of bad shocks..... it's manufacturing, it happens.

Yup. I was initially going to get the 6112/5160 combo but opted for the icons for their adjustablility and more ride height. Can't go wrong with bilsteins.

To be completely honest we have seen failures with nearly every brand of suspension we sell. Some definitely more then others and a lot of that can be attributed to the volume of items sold. Personally, it really comes down to how the manufacturer handles the failure. That is what holds value, to me at least. In the case of suspension manufacturers they have a hard road since the products can tend to be misused. I have people who tell me that they are just a weekend warrior who doesn't do much off-roading other then some dirt trails to remote fishing spots. Next thing I know they sending me video clips of them jumping their truck. In this case the OP just got a bad shock which can happen. I wouldn't hold it against Bilstein. Now, where it changes for me, is when we start to see a large influx in failures and the manufacturer knows there is a problem and they try to cover it up or divert attention to circumstances that play no role in why the product would fail then we would have a bigger problem on our hands. Which again isn't the case in this failure at all, I am just speaking in general.

IMHO, HeadStrong Off-Road was awesome and super helpful through the entire process. The new shock got out to me insanely quick and I was able to pick it up at my UPS distribution center. Shock went on and the defective one in the box and back to HeadStrong all in about 2 hours. From everyone I've told they all replied "Really?? Bilstein shock did that??" But I get it, defective products role off the line all the time. Just make sure its from Headstrong since they will walk you through the entire process and keep you updated!

What's the turn around time on the warranty claim processing before you get a refund?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS, WE REALLY APPRECIATE IT! Once we get the shock back we will do what we can to help speed the rest of the process along. Usually it can take up to two weeks on average but it isn't really up to us but we do what we can to get the money back to the customer as quickly as possible though!

    Marie,

in this case, What is the process if Bilstein rules that it is "normal" or that it was a "install incorrectly"

If it is deemed "normal" or having been misused then the end-user would be out the cost of replacement shock. If they want the shock back at that time then we can ship it back to them, freight is not covered though. When we work through a warranty claim the first step is to have the end user send us comprehensive pictures of the shock so we can see if anything stands out to us. This way we can get an idea on if it would be warrantable or not before the processes even starts. This step usually prevents anything from coming back that wouldn't be covered. I really only have had one situation where it was a little iffy but, the customer wanted to proceed regardless, and when we got the shock here we were able to see that it was a failure and was not mistreated. IF we were to get it back here and notice something glaring that wouldn't fall under warranty then we would contact the customer and see what they would like to do and go from there.

That's great that it worked out, congrats. All said and done if you had to do it all over again would you still go with the 6112's and 5160's?

Too bad this happened to you but it seems like it all worked out. I love my 6112/5160 combo. My only complaint is I wish I could get heavier coils for the 6112.
