Just didn't like the way it drove compared to the Taco. I drove them back to back and liked the taco more. Tundra just felt too big for me.

Except me. Grab a Silverado or F150 and dont look back. They have more power, space, creature comforts, better gas mileage, etc. The 3rd Gen Tacoma is a work in progress. It rattles and vibes, howls and creaks, and has generally underwhelming performance.

In Nevada you'll have plenty of big parking spaces and driveways. A full-size will kill it out there.

Just FYI, as a native Californian, I don't want to lecture folks from Wisconsin or Syracuse about snow, but ... when it snows a lot in the Sierra, it snows A LOT, and with the mountain roads, plowing can be iffy. 99% of the time, FWD or especially AWD with winter tires is ideal, but there will be times when ground clearance and maybe low range, even chains, will be the only things to get you through.

Yeah It all comes down to how you feel about it since your the one driving it. The f150 and Silverado are good trucks which trim models and configurations are you thinking about for both?

Whatever ones I can get in the 40k range lol. They both have so many configurations. Im leaning more towards the chevy than three ford though. Double cab standard bed.

I found this one, certified fully loaded for 44k. http://michaelhohlmotorco2014.vinmanagersites.com/AutoDetails2.aspx?id=46601864

Pretty sure I know one guy who'll recommend the Chevy on this forum.

It looks pretty good and mileage is low, personally I feel like it's a good deal and for that price your getting a lot of truck.

Be careful with that ecoboost, I hear the exact opposite. Lots of dependability issues and there's even a video floating around where one ford dealer survey all the techs and they all pick the 5.0 over an ecoboost.

Any Toyota in Reno is going to be expensive. Being the Tahoe area they hold their value even older Toyotas. That being said I'd rather drive a Tacoma out in that area, easier to get around and does good in the snow. It snows a lot out there. Reno not as much as the outskirts but still need something that drives good all around. Take a test drive towards Mt. Rose and see how you like it.

Apparently the issue was port injection vs direct injection and carbon build up on valves. Don't know much about them though. I'd lean toward the 6.2L GM since my last one was awesome and I know a ton of guys with chevy and GMC who have high miles with zero to minimal issue.

Yeah man, its crazy out here how expensive the older ones are out here. I plan on taking it for an extended test drive next week and will be bringing it to the mountains for a drive.

I think they already resolved that issue to by redesigning the fuel system, almost any Direct Injected vehicle is going to be suspect of carbon issues.

Definitely get it up into some hills and out on the interstate so you can see if you can live with it.

I dealt with carbon buildup on my GTI so thats the main reason keeping me away from the ecoboost.

It's been fixed no longer an issue on ecoboost. So you're good there.

when i totaled my 2011, insurance cut me a check for about $26k. I paid $25k for it (before adding my trade in and down payment) and added about $2k in accessories (most of which i was able to remove).

This! Especially in Reno. You will be doing a lot of mountain driving if you ever want to leave town, and it sounds like that is where the AT is at it's worst. Take a comparison drive in the GM twins too. At this point, I don't think it's a lock that the Tacoma will be more reliable, so get what you like to drive best. If you go Tacoma, check Carson City Toyota. They are usually a little more willing to deal.
I'd say welcome to Reno, but the place is getting overcrowded. If you found an affordable place to live, you are already ahead of the game.
