The LATCH keeps the seat from flopping around which seems like a safer plan to me.

My point is, the middle section of the Tacoma wasn't designed to use the LATCH system so you have to use the seat belt instead which allows MY seats to rock around.

When we had our car seats checked years ago when my kids were in them the CHP officer suggested using rolled up towels or swimming pool noodles to level the car seat. I imagine those also could be used to keep the seats from rocking. One other thing I did was, with my knee, put as much weight as I could into the car seat base and then tug as hard as I could on the seat belt or latch straps. That really helped stabilize the seat.

I have two Diono - Rainier seats in the back. They are great. Pricey, but one of the most narrow convertible seats out there.

I run a recaro rear facing on passenger side. Lots of room for me in front. But im 5'8" though. The boy loves his recaro.

I've had two car seats in my truck for years without amy problems.

I guess if you had a really tall guy in the passenger seat with it all the way back it could be tight, outside of that works great.

Just got my seat inspected by CHP and they had me move the seat to the middle. Gave me a little more room but still had to move my seat one click forward. There arnt any better options. Trucks just small for carseats

Im 6' and it works ok now

Tried a few different positions and couldn't make it work. After saying I'd never get rid of my 2nd Gen it's gone and a 4Runner took it's place. Between the more room for passengers and the vastly better build quality I don't regret it so far other than I wish I had tried one out a year ago before doing the extra work on my Tacoma.

    one kiddo

2015 12 day Montana trip. Chico keyfit 30 in right rear, left rear 1/3 seat pulled and fridge mounted. No issue with fitting, wife was able to climb in back with the little one during fussy times.

2016 14 day Montana trip. Same
Positions, but a diono radian rxt.

2017 17 day south west trip, 7mo in Chico keyfit behind driver, Diono radian rxt behind passenger front facing with 2.5yo. Wife still had room to hop back between the kids during fussy time.

This weekend 2x diono radian rxt's. If you need a seat... do not hesitate, there is no better or smaller seat in the market. Designed to fit three across in a standard sedan, no wider than an average adults shoulders.

For this saying you can't fit kids in a Tacoma double cab... put down the fork and be shorter... at 5'6 for me and my wife, we have plenty of room.

I have 2 in mine. Both are Diono Radian R100s. I at one point had both rear facing and had enough room and the front seats weren't pushed to the dash.

I’ve had two all-in-one Graco car seats in my DCSB since I bought it, that was actually the reason I bought the truck since it was so much larger since the access cab. No problems, but I’m also 5’9”

I'm 6' tall, and you can't fit a seat behind my seat in a DC. It barely fits behind me in my wife's 4Runner. Just for reference to y'all.

I have a rear facing for my 18month old and a small booster for my five year old. For daily trips we're fine but long road trips the passenger side is a little cramped. But this is temporary as my son will be out of the booster soon and baby front facing. The huge covered bed is why we keep the truck. Makes throwing random stuff back there for trips way easier. Brought her toddler push car thingy, son's bike, my skateboard, coolers, besides all the other trip stuff we usually bring. Nothing beats an open bed. With that said, 4R would be our next choice and might have to go that route if we have a third kid.

My 4R is pretty great compared to the double cab as far as space goes, but it fills up quick. I don't know if you've considered a Sequoia (or other full size truck), but with my 2 kids and gear for a weekend we're at capacity for interior space and the cargo area is nearly to the ceiling.

Also if you go the tacoma route I'd suggest some secured or covered storage solution for the bed. My softopper has been working out great. A hard shell would be most ideal though.

Same here, I tried it for about a block and my knees were literally knocking the dash, luckily my wife is short so it can go behind the psngr seat if necessary.

We also have a Sequoia and that thing has so much room it is almost silly to put the car seat in the Tacoma, it's only when we need the mini-bed to haul stuff all together.
