Rough Country for the price or a different brand?

Recently purchased a 2017 tacoma sport 4wd and I'm looking to put a lift on it but nothing crazy. I was thinking of doing a 3 inch lift to fit 33s under it. I have been looking around at different ones and so far I am stuck on a rough country 3 inch lift based on price. Would it be recommended or should I go with another brand?

 

Dont cheap out on the lift.

Lift alone won't fit 33s. See the links in my Sig below which answer why that is...

Bottom line if you want to roll 33s you'll need to Trim and chop cab mount to avoid rubbing at full lock or when offroading.

Keeping the lift at 2" or less will also avoid quite a few headaches and expenses. Anything over 2" will require aftermarket upper control arms...adding time to install and about $500+ in parts alone. Also you're going to put a lot more stress and strain on steering and driveline components with 3inch vs a 2 inch lift.

So I ask you why is 3 the magic number for your uses? Why not 2?

 

I wouldn't have price necessarily as the determining factor. If you can only spend __ to get a cheap lift, save up until you can get something decent. Doesn't have to be super expensive, but something quality will serve you better in the long run.

Lots of people run 5100's all around and are happy. That's fairly inexpensive.

I chose the Toytec Boss kit and am happy with the performance overall (similarly priced to getting 6112's and 5160's)

 

No, it's a garbage lift. You get what you pay for. You should absolutely go with another brand.

 

ive been looking around at other 3rd gens and have seen several with different 3 inch lifts and i like the way they look. i wont be doing much off roading, its mostly just for looks

 

i have tried to look for toytec lifts but all i see is 6 inch lifts. do you have any link with a 3 inch toytec lift?

Either of those will get you 0-2". I'm running 1.5" which is what I believe they are preset to from the factory.

Honestly this is going to be more for looks than anything else. Im trying to stay under $1000 for the lift itself, not including wheels. Preferably around $500. Would you have any recommendations?

 

For that price range just get 5100s for the front with some OME coils and dont even mess with the rear.

But honestly if you want something decent you gotta pay to play. Get either Toytech or the full bilstein setup.

I cant believe people complaining about spending 1000 on a lift for a 40K truck.. Come on guys..

If he wants to get 3" of lift, he can't not "mess with the rear"...he's a newb so just to clarify he'll need at least 2" of lift in the rear with 3" of lift up front to give the truck a "leveled" appearance. If he wants to maintain factory rake (ass end slightly higher than the front for less sag when hauling and towing) then he will need equal lift in front and rear.

 

Even if your going for looks, spend some time researching lift options, wheel sizes, and tire sizes so you know what potential costs will be. You can always check the TW marketplace for deals. Like most members will tell you, lifting these trucks with the expectation of only spending 500 bucks will end up costing you more later on down the road. Stick with a reputable brand, and install yourself so you know whats going on under there. Things to look out for-2.5 inch or more you will need new UCAs (or replace tires more frequently) - larger tires may require trimming and CMC - possibility of increased costs due to upgrading to ECGS bushing to replace factory needle bearing. Keep researching, tons of good info on here, good luck with your lift!!!

Spending that on quality shit for the front only > Bullshit stuff for the front and rear.

 

Technically, if you're doing it for looks, a nice shiny external reservoir shock looks a lot cooler in a wheel well than a fucking spacer.
