Help Me Figure Out What is Rattling In My Truck - Please

Interior noise travels...even tho it sounds like it's coming from front it's coming from the rear. If you can get a passenger to go test drive with you. Have them place their hand on the dash and apply forward pressure to see if noise goes away.

Other thing to check is the plastic little cover on interior door handle, those little boogers tend to rattles. It's directly behind the door handle. Have passenger pressed gently and see if noise goes away


Other things to check is exterior parts . make sure everything is secured. Check the gas tank plastic shield that could be flapping around I'm rough roads

 

Thank you. My wife went with me and put her hand on the dash and it wasn't it. She swears it's the rear door panel but it's not loose. I think it's the rear seat or passenger seat but when she is in the seat it still does it. Tomorrow night or Saturday morning I'm basically trying everything that all of you have been so gracious to come up with. Once you get that interior noise the irritated eye twitching starts next! LOL.

 

Does your truck have sunroof? If it does the sunroof track nuts and bolts could be undertorqued and rattle.

This is a strong possibility too. My wife SWEARS that the rear door panel is it but I didn't check this part of it! Dang, this is why this forum is so great! Thanks!!

 

Yeah I didn't think about that, I don't think the off-roads have them overhead like my sr5.

 

I gotta say, these trucks have a LOT of mystery squeaks, rattles, and noises for a newer vehicle. My 98 Cherokee only squeaks from the leafs and it's coming up on 200k.

Did you buy the truck used or new? I kept hearing a weird rattling under my seat and it was absolutely obnoxious. Vacuuming under the seat one day I found a couple chucky cheese coins where the carpet overlapped. Found 8 in total and some legos.

Now if I could only figure out the 6 or 7 other noises...

 

How about next time you have her drive the truck and you can poke around in the backseat and listen. I'll bet you can narrow it down better that way.

 

Rear grab handles are loose fit also. Try tapping on them, both ends.

 

Go drill the old lady and start fresh tomorrow!

 

Hey guys I'm new to TW usually just reading and not posting. I had the same rattle, I found that it was my passenger side headrest.

 

Bought it new. There is literally nothing rolling around or loose. It's driving me nuts! It only does it over rough roads.

Have you tried having the wife drive, while you search for the rattle?

 

Nope. She just had two shoulder surgeries but that's a good idea so I'll get my son to drive. I think I'll have better luck looking around in the back while he drives but sound travels so weirdly until there is no telling. I swear it sounds just like the passenger seat rattling but it's not.

 

That should work, always easier to find it yourself!

Tried it. I'm going out this evening to try everything I can. I hope to find it this weekend and will report back if the riddle is solved!
