I upgraded my Smittybilt hardware to class 10.9 bolts and genuine nylock nuts with a dab of blue locktite.

I also replaced the flat mounting bar with something a little better designed.20170611_195250.jpg

Did you make that new mounting bar yourself? I really hate the flat bars that came with my tent.

Got them from mckenzirs.com, they have an entire wall full of all sorts of different tabs and what not that you can choose from. I spent the whole day trying to find something, there were so many...

Also make sure that these bolts and nuts get replaced as well, the middle one was finger loose, then to tight from my paws from how that washer got compressed. This was the tipping point in deciding to replace all of the mounting hardware. The nylock nuts that are supplied suck ass and was the main culprit why everything wouldnt stay tight.

That curved mounting bar, even with some rubber, and better mounting nuts, came with my new tent. Oh and FSR gave me a parts bag attached to my tent.. in case I need to make a field repair.

The only open tent picture I got on my 7 day camping trip of New England

To those with mid-height bed racks/bars: do you find that the ~6" the tent pokes up above the cab decreases your fuel economy much?

For those of you that have an RTT on top a fiberglass shell, do you have your shells reinforced? of just mounted on racks. I have a ARE CX model with rack tracks built in,,,on order for my 15 DCSB...and am very interested in the idea of RTT

My buddy has the HD. I know he had a lot of figuring to do about the max weight load the cap could handle. It's braced on the inside from the bottom of the cap to the bed rails I think

A while back I posted about the bed rack I built for my RTT based on Box Rocket's design. At the time, several asked if I was making more, and I wasn't. Now I am. Feel free to PM if you're interested.

I've got the Thule Aerobars on my rack, rack is a Leer. No other bracing or reinforcement. Feels solid as a rock when in it, loading it, etc., but I'll be keeping an eye out just to be on the lookout for any trouble. I know the shell manufacturers don't really like to say how much weight they can handle on top, but it sure doesn't feel like any kind of a problem to me.

I have the FSR 55. Spent many nights in the tent without the annex. The wife and I just used the annex for the first time at a music festival we attended. Very simple to setup, it took us about a 1/2 hour with no directions. Im sure time could be cut in half knowing what your doing. It rained 1/2 the time we were there. I have to admit, it was nice to have a place out of the cold damp rain. If your gonna be stationary for a length of time, it is nice.IMG_3594.jpgIMG_3593.jpg

For a short bed taco,. Do y'all recommend a 2-3 man or a 5 man tent?

I'm 6"0 190 the girl is like 5"4 lol but I'd like to have room for clothes and such for the next day.... And activities... ;)

The 2-3 should be fine. There's plenty of space length-wise for clothes and such, while it's a bit wider than a full size mattress (basically queen sized) for...stuff

I have a CVT Mt Rainier mounted on an ARE Overland shell with Yakima tracks. So far no issues. I do have bed stiffeners that I will be installing but seems secure. CVT assured me that they install hundreds on of these tents on shells and have never had an issue.
