Anyone read any of the info on this engine? Its being offered from cummins as a "drop in" repower unit with everything minus adapters to get your swap running. Albeit a more expensive route for repower, id love to see someone do this swap.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
That jeep on their web page was the one from Dirt Every Day, they drove it underwater for like 35mins with that Cummins.

Bumping this since more details have been released on their website. Still no pricing or official release date. But curious on opinions on this swap in a Tacoma other then dealing with adapters to mount it to the transmission. Any ideas on how the wiring would be? Maybe best if doing the swap to go with a stand alone ecu instead of trying to mate it to the stock Tacoma ecu? Obviously my knowledge on wiring swaps is limited but would seem to be the hardest part of the whole swap, not that any of it is easy. look forward to hopefully someone throwing it into a Tacoma as I think it would be the next most popular swap after the jeeps they have done already.

    Cheers!

    The Bed is stock...ish

You would not use a Tacoma ECU at all with this engine. From the looks of it, this engine will need a battery, fuel and something to sit on and it will run.

Gotcha, I was more figuring something would still need to be in place to keep the rest of the truck functioning while the Cummins ecm would keep the engine running.

I'm thinking of putting one of these in my old '94 Toyota P/U, I love the old 22RE but it just doesn't hold the highway, which is why I rarely drive it out of town. I wonder if it'd be too loud for hunting tho. :notsure:

Been there, done that! This will be more power and more reliable plus the Toy conversion is just too involved for an extremely busy business owner with no time for more projects. This is easy, make 2 phone calls, order 2 parts, and sucker one of my technicians into doing the work for trade of something I find useless and don't need anymore like an old Hilux, an old 4Runner or FJ40 . I'm not saying it's for everybody though. 8 g's is not something to laugh at. It's tax deductible for me so no biggie.

I called my local dealer and they said they pushed it back. it was supposed to be available second quarter but got bumped back to third and now when I call they just say they haven't heard anything yet. I keep checking but who knows.

Weak number out of the box yes, but won't take long for tunes to be released. Wouldn't be surprised to see 180-190whp and 325-350wtq with 25+mpg.

Is $8k the official price tag? Was hoping to see a company take on making a kit for 2nd gen tacomas, but so far only kits for tj and jk jeeps.

Dunno about an LS swap, but I agree...numbers are weak. 161 hp and 267 lb-ft? I would want at least 300 lb-ft of torque and 200 hp if I go through all the trouble and expense of a brand new Cummins engine swap. Will you be able to tune it to those numbers? Probably. But I think it should break the 300-lb-ft-of-torque-mark out of the box from Cummins.

I'll wait and see what the next "Coming Soon" Repower motor is. Hopefully a 5.0L V8 with 300 hp and 550 lb-ft!

I'd rather try and track down the Duramax 2.8 from a wrecked Colorado/ Canyon rather then spend 8k on that set up. It really doesn't take much to get a Diesel going electronics wise.
