Looking to upgrade my speakers in my 17 tacoma double cab. I have non JBL. I have been out of the market for a while. What speakers are you guys using? Not looking to put an amp in. Just a simple speaker change. Something with good sound. Whats your recomendations?

Addictive Audio makes a really good speaker at a good price.

Honestly any speaker from a decent manufacturer, pioneer, Kenwood,Sony, infinity, etc will have better sound than the factory ones, they will have bigger magnets and separate tweeter. Not to say some cheap brands won't sound good because I bought a set of power bass 5 1/4 components for a old powerstroke I had and they sounded pretty good for a 30$ set of speakers. If you are running stock head unit, I'm not sure how much power it puts out, I doubt it's alot so try to find speakers with a higher sensitivity level they are more sensitive to power and will sound louder with less power. I'm not an expert by any means I used to dabble in car audio back in the day, but I'm getting older now and don't as much so I'm sure there is someone on here who is an installer that will have way more/ better info for you.

Without an amp, you're wasting money in my opinion. The factory speakers are well matched to the factory head unit.

Sub'd - I was thinking OEM+, but that's a little more than I'm wanting to spend -- and if I can just add speakers and NOT tear into the dash to get to wires and such, that's an added bonus.

I'm not sure on dash think 3 1/2", front doors are 6x9, and rear doors 6.5". But go to Crutchfield.com put in ur truck and it will show what sizes. Plus u can get speakers from them with instructions and the factory wiring connectors(most times) and it's decent prices.

Bought the OEM Subaru Plug n Play Tweeters off eBay for $80. AMAZING improvement already. Added 4 kickers in the front and rear, crutchfield has a sale I think for Kickers, buy one get one half off. It even included the harness and mounts for it as well for free. Total spent was probably $180 I think for all 6 with harness and mounts. HUGE difference for such a small price. Definitely glad I did it.

Looks like I'm wrong on the fronts being 3 1/2 Crutchfield has them as some goofy 2 3/4. I know on my tundra, I took factory speaker out of the dash, gutted it and used it as an adapter to mount 1" infinity tweeter on, it sounded pretty good along with the 6.5 infinity woofer in the door.

I did the Subaru Tweeters on mine too and it was a really good upgrade, once I do the door speakers I think it will sound even better.

How do the "Subaru Tweeters" work? Do they have a crossover built in like the Toyota tweeters?

OEM Audio plus. Got mine installed last week, and I love it. Obviously it blows it away the stock system to pieces. Also crushes my roommates limited Tundra with JBL premium.
