Good thing for you we don't have a 3rd Gen Saturday Poster Child Thread and Weekend Drinking Haiku thread. That would be out of control! @DesertTaco4x4 already has us following a bad pattern.

    Just kidding, not his fault.

Was just thinking again about this comment. Adventurous? Maybe. But more so we've made it a point to prioritize what's important to us. (Even before the fire.). We value is experiences over 'things' and work towards that continually. Sometimes it does take 'things' to generate those experiences, so our time and money is spent on outdoor gear.

Had a one-time chance to buy a $350 bottle of whiskey. Did it. And it was fantastic!
It cost me a day and a half drive to Tetons to spend the week here with my husband who got to fly in. Very much worth it.
I'll be spending some money to go on a pack trip with a local rancher. Looking forward to it!

What we don't spend money on is silly things for our home -whatever that is for us these days- to impress people. We don't have figurines, random wall art from Hobby Lobby, or anything that doesn't mean something to us.

This isn't directed at you but all in general. I see so many set on killing them selves at work to make a buck to buy fancy cars and gigantic homes just because they're 'supposed to.' /rantoff

I have to agree with your thinking. Just last night we went to a pool party at a friend of a friends house. Huge house, nice pool with diving board, pool house with bathroom and upstairs had a t.v. and video game system. Palm trees in the back yard, the dogs pen was almost as big as my backyard. As the kids were enjoying the pool I was chatting with owner. He was telling me how he spends all of his free time taking care of the trees and maintaining the pool. The pool house is in need of repairs, the main house is too big to keep clean. He never has any time to relax and enjoy his own backyard. On top of that, its one of those neighborhoods with HOA and anytime he wants to add or remove something from his yard that is view-able from the street, he has to get approval. He just seemed very unhappy. Meanwhile, I was very happy returning to my quaint 1200 sq ft house that I can have cleaned in an hour, the grass cut in 45 min (front and back with a push mower). I use half of one weeks paycheck on my house payment. I can afford to send my daughter to the college of her choice, I can send my son to the college of his choice, and I can enjoy my days off doing whatever I feel like doing. Life is too short to be miserable. Next weekend I will be enjoying the powerboat nationals on the Red River, I hope to have some good pics to show.

Everytime we bought a house the mortgage lenders told us how we should be buying something way more expensive  No thanks. This will do.

Have fun on your trip and be safe.

I agree. "Things" may be great to impress. Buying luxuries to show off to others, who cares? What is more important is the experienciies we have in life, and our own experincies. It's about the memories we can share with our own spouses, that is what is important to me! I make a good living, but I have the money to live, not to impress. @Cuffs , you are wise!

My neighbour has a pool, he regrets it, too much work and cost. We both have decent backyards, mine flowers, his pool, I'll take the flowers!
