I actually think Nissan is ahead at the half way point of 17 so far, bumping VW to 2nd and Toyota to 3rd.

I have owned nothing but Toyota's as an adult. I think that they deserve to lose this race. Toyota absolutely needs to put out some less boring cars. They tried with the GT86, but they just don't seem to get that cars need more power in this modern era.

    They need a 450+ Tundra, a 350hp Tacoma, a 300hp GT86, 450+hp Supra and a 200+hp lightweight mk4 M2 as a miata fighter.

Why didn't you get an AC Sport?

I completely agree. I'll say it again... one, I don't get why the Tacoma doesn't have a smaller turbo engine making better power and much better mileage. Two, a hybrid Tacoma.

I feel like they're really missing two huge opportunities with the Tacoma.

Is JBL really that big of a deal? I mean, it is a light/midsize truck...not a Lexus. So road noise is going to be a little higher. Wouldn't that wipe out any advantages? I had JBL on my '14 Taco with BFG's (I think). Don't have iJBL on my '17 Pro. And I really don't think there is a difference.

It was only an example of what they don't offer with manual transmissions, I could have picked something other than JBL to make the point.

Wow... Rear LED's? Is that a joke? If its not; who makes those decisions? Don't get too carried away, Toyota.

Toyota hiring requirements: Be the #1 troll on planet earth.

We'll just add 1 at a time each year. 2018: Right rear LED, 2019: Left rear LED, 2020: Right front LED... etc, adjust price accordingly.

New for the 2018 Tacoma: Right rear LED, and Left rear Disc brake (while still maintaining Right rear drum).

Following my comment about JBL, are disc vs drum brakes a big deal? I've never had any problem stopping. I've no plans to enter into a Grand Prix. I had an Acura with Brembo brakes, which also were also capable to bring me to a stop...and were red. Other than that, they were exactly the same. I reckon I could paint my Tacoma's breaks red, too? I heard there was an off-reading reason to keep drum brakes. But I've got my suspicions there too.

I agree, the engine options don't seem to be in line with the rest of the market right now.
1)A hybrid would be very interesting for the masses, not so much for the TW crowd.
    2) They should drop the 2.7L and go to a 2.5L turbo.
    3) I'd love to see a 320-350hp model with an 8speed auto.

With as many Tacos as they sell I don't think it's too tall of an ask to have 3 or 4 engine options.

More torque is the main thing these engines need. It was kind of dissapointing that this new 3.5L produces one less pound feet of torque than the old engine.
Toyota only makes changes to powertrain when market share is at stake. The new ranger and Wrangler pickup should make them update the powertrain.

And from a parts logistics point of view, it really makes no sense. Now they have to stock 3 tail gate locking mechanisms (one with different key, one with ignition key, one with power lock), 2+ different tail lights (regular, pro, possible led regular, possible led pro), and whos what else for a truck that is virtually unchanged in 3 years. Makes me wonder if the people designing the tacoma actually drive one on a day to day basis, or if they just said, "hmmm the 2nd gen worked, lets keep it going and include some changes but only the least amount of work possible to implement" -- then realizing that they should have just redesigned it once, correctly, rather than these half-assed patches every MY.

Eastway Toyota in Windsor Ontario has (had?) one. White TRD Pro. Dealer ended up with it, wasn't ordered. I don't know if it's still there or not.

I think the dealers get an allotment, at least that's how it was explained to me by a dealer. The dealer I talked to said they got 5 Tacoma TRD Pros in 2017.

If it's one thing that really annoys me is that the 3rd gen didn't release WITH LED taillights from the get go with an option for HID/LED headlights as part of some tech package or something.
