No problem! It could be a difference of short-bed vs long-bed too. That extra foot of bed length may help it sit a little lower

 

You could also spend and get the KBVoodoo tailgate cap and attach the Velcro to that.

I noticed the same thing and had the same question!

 

Yeah I really can't see any way to pull mine down to sit flush with the cab. Maybe it's an older version or something like that? Lol

 

After installing mine, i think its adjustable. You use the two straps that clip onto the front and back sides and you loosen them all to get started. Then you can stand at the back of the truck and pull backwards on the rear upper section of the frame. While pulling back/up on the frame tighten the rear strap that clips from the frame to the bed rails. This moves the height of the topper up in the front so i would think if you loosen the rear straps you might be able lower the front it if its higher than the cab. Thats just my interpretation/experience from putting mine on.

You can adjust it with the straps. Tighten the straps near the cab, loosen the ones near the tailgate. To make it lower in the front You can only do that so much though, too far and you won't be able to snap the snaps near the tailgate. Remember that there are 3 adjustment holes for the pin in the middle of the mounting rails. You can mess with those in conjunction with the straps at either end to make it sit how you like. Then you can rivet in snaps to the front of the bed to always keep it in place so you don't have to play games with strap tension every time you put the topper up.

 

I picked this one up from a lady that had it on a '12 Nissan Frontier. All I had to do was buy the bed rail clamps specific for the Tacoma and it fit just fine. I know I saw someone asking about a Frontier a few posts back. Just wish it was black, but for the price I couldn't pass it up. Maybe I'll look into a replacement canvas next year.

 

You are correct, my bad. But when looking at it again, the one has the of rack, which may change our perception some.

 

Regarding the height of the Softoppers, I noticed the same thing while I was browsing. I am 99% sure Softopper changed their design because all of the old Softoppers for short bed trucks sit really high above the cab. All of the new ones sit below the cab like mine, it is not an optical illusion. They definitely changed the design to make it not sit as high which makes it look way better in my opinion. My speculation is that since 3rd gens came out, they wanted one topper that would fit both. Since the 3rd gen bed sits higher, they had to make it shorter, height wise.

I have grey on my MGM too and love it. I've had people stop me in parking lots asking about it! Off-topic but what wheels are those? They look awesome.

Regarding the height on my 3rd gen it is right in line with the cab when the straps are tightened to what feels like a reasonable tension. It must be a design change.

 

Did anyone get the mid window cut out or "doggy" window? I would like to see pictures of how it looks.

 

Yeah I'm definitely bias now, but I think it looks better than the black on MGMs imo. I was unsure about the grey until i actually had it on. Feel like the grey doesnt photograph well against the MGM because it always looks lighter (whiter) than it really is. Your truck looks awesome btw!

Is there a way to have a pss through for the rear sliding glass and can it be somehow sealed so ac and heat can go through for dogs in the bed. Also, when it's folded down will it interfere with the front tire of a motorcycle pressed against the front wall of the bed?

 

The front tire of a motorcycle will rub against the canvas flaps when the topper is folded down but youll be able to get the tire to the front wall... I just put a rag or old towel over the tire to prevent marking...

 

Will the tire pinch or damage the canvas? Can the canvas be pushed up so it's not being pinched by the tire? With the storage bag on the canvas will the tire damage the bagged canvas?

 

It may push it but i doubt it will cause any damage... you can also lift the topper so it sits on top of the bikes tire... i dont know about the cover as i dont have one but i would assume thats whats its for - protection...

This is one of the main reasons i got the softopper... when you need to haul shit thats too big for a campershell it simply just folds down in 2 min...
