So I wanted to clear up some false advertising on Bakflips part. For 2005-2015 MX4 the picture on their website shows the drop down track system and brackets. This picture is wrong. Two customer service representatives also assured me that my kit based on my order # came with these brackets. So I received it and like I thought it uses existing track system making it useless. I spoke to a manager who said he will send out emails to change this picture and train the reps better.

Now I read alot of people wonder if the tailgate can be closed with cover. For 2005-2015 the answer is no. so you cannot operate the tailgate without opening amd closing cover. This is very inconvienent. 2016 models dont have to do this.

Now in the 2015 install video the sells rep shows a product called part# 406td which are d rings attached to brackets since we no longer have our track system. This product no longer exists and the company is still advertising it.

As far as fixing any leakage i called their technical service install #, they have no fix and recommended rubber sealant like all the posts on here mention. They said to expect leakage and if i didnt like it i had 60 days to return it but their product is not waterproof.

I wanted to get this info out there for anyone thinking of this product to consider these things. With that said, any 2nd gen people recommend this after owning it for years or should i return it and get a shell for 800$ more like im considering? Im also now considering the undercover single piece now if i have to open cover each time anyway and this cover is almost 100% waterproof. I dont want to regret installing this 899$ cover in 6 months if its a POS and I have siliconed my entire rails

    Same on other trucks.

Employer has a Bakflip on a Ram and Tundra. Must close tailgate first. Who cares? You want the cover on top of the tailgate to keep water out anyhow.

Get a shell/topper. Unless you plan to haul really tall stuff or plan to dump things in the bed from above.

Overlap keeps water out. Think about it. Cover has to be on top. Has to fit tight to work.

After two years of owning the BakFlip VP model ($700) it began to de-laminate and essentially fall apart. I called the company and didn't get anywhere with them. The thing only has a ONE YEAR warranty!! Do not buy this product!!!

Just finished install. Did the rtv silicone. Messed up on the front rubber seal on bulkhead because install info wasnt soecific exactly where it sits (towards front if strip or rear) so i put it as close to cab as possible and it needed to be opposite. Im really happy with it but with my rubber mat cant fit my 17" cooler under it which sucks. But all in all glad i got it. Ill work on waterproffing, redoing bulkhead seal, and adding drain tube another day. I plan on using waterfall foam to seal from areas where light comes in.

There's 17 1/2" of height if you go inbetween the latch rails. Here's my 17 1/4" tall cooler and my giant waterproof box. The latch rail goes over the box and just barely holds the Bakflip up. I'm gonna work on that. I bought my Bakflip used off craigslist 2 hours after I bought the truck. I really like it a lot. Combined with a pop n lock, all my stuff stays secure and if I need to haul something tall, it easily folds up against the cab, or if needed, it comes off in just a few minutes.

I really wanted a shell but my wife hates them and they do limit the trucks capabilities. I still am working in backyard so the folding cover is great for when im gonna haul mulch etc. im pretty impressed. Think i will also be able to drill holes in the side rails on the metal prt that comes down to mount d rings so the lack of toyota track system will more than likely not be an issie at all

I put the Dodge D rings on the front bed bolts. They're strong enough to hold down anything you can haul in the truck. I put a bunch of L track in there for tying down small stuff.

    Look into the Softopper.

It's lightweight and easily storable in a garage (yours looks tight from your photos). It's a little easier to take on and off than a fiberglass top.

This might make both you and your wife happy.

I like my Softopper, but I don't constantly have a top on. I like having a pickup truck and want an open bed, but sometimes due to travel, weather, and me wanting to store things in the truck with less risk of theft, I put the cap up. You can also collaps the topper if you carry big things.

I like to have a cap on when I need it, and then not have it on at any other time. Softopper works well for high maintenance people like me lol.
