Check Out My Build Thread :)
made an appointment this past Monday for today and took it in for the rear diff and the CPS recalls... they said all parts were readily available (holding breath) and got me in a rental (Tacoma) and sent me on my way... tech stated it would be done by the end of today but I told them to tell the mechs not to rush and I would be fine until next week if they needed the extra time... so fingers crossed it gets taken care of correctly and in the mean time im still in a taco which from all 188 pages of this thread seems to be rare and I consider myself lucky I'm not in a prius, rav or corolla.

alright i just received my call as well. they claimed to have just received a huge shipment of parts for the recall (as well the the parts to fix my tonneau cover). I have been waiting since about jun 10, so about 2.5 months. My truck was not impounded, as its only a minor seepage. also since it is only minor seepage, I decided that, since we have a hurricane about to hit, I might want to hold off on turning in my escape vehicle until after it hits, so I scheduled it for next Friday.

Got my Truck back same day as promised. Work looks well done. Looks like original nuts and bolts used which doesn't seem like a problem at all, but new gasket that I can see installed.

Quality work from Olathe Toyota, love the team there.

A while back, some one on this sight said, "what do you think Toyota owes you." I can answer that, they owe each and every one of us an apology! Even a form letter written by the lawyers in legalese, would be better then the kiss off they are giving all of us!

I picked up a new 2017 a month ago, and I gotta say after reading through some parts of this thread I'm a little worried.

So is it safe to assume that newer 2017 Tacos already had this issue addressed prior to hitting the dealer lots? Mine had just come off the truck a day prior to me buying it and when I looked up my vin it said there weren't any recalls on it.

I don't know if that's a safe assumption to make. They still haven't acknowledged that ORs also have the problem. They are still releasing 2017s with howling diffs and other issues.

Yes. If it was assembled in the last 4 to 6 months it should have the new gasket.

Edit: I see you have an OR and not a Sport. Previous statement now null and void.

Nothing is ever "safe to assume", as when you "assume" you make ans "ass" out of "u" and "me".

The rear-diff issue is easy--stick your head down under there once in a while and take a look...

I think you may have been referring to the other guy. You're correct - I do have a Sport.

    Thanks for that info though.

There is no "new gasket" it is the same part number (42181-0K030) going back to 2005. They did not properly torque the nuts on initial assembly...

I'll def monitor it going forward. My truck only gets driven once a week, so I'll check it before/after each drive.

    NOPE!

Toyota in a magazine article said as if March this year, they are doing a re-tightening process on the rear ends. So 2017 are indeed affected as are trucks that are not on the recall list as we have come to see.

Ouch man, I hope they reseal it for you soon without any hassle. How many miles do you have on yours if you don't mind me asking? I'm about to hit 1k. I don't see any signs of leakage as of right now, but only time will tell if it holds up or not.

I wonder how many labor hours they bill to warranty to actually reseal the diff.
