When I am sitting at a stop light in neutral (man transmision)with my foot on the brake I occasionally get a slight buzzing vibration from the brake pedal, what is it and is this normal?

It shouldn't do it a lot however. Mine was doing it literally every other press. It was very annoying.

If it's doing it a lot or it's super noticeable, I would take it in. They replaced that entire assembly and mine is barely noticeable now.

Side note: Toyota is the only car company with these shitty brake set ups. I've driven dozens of cars and no brakes ever buzzed like the Tacoma and 4runner brakes.

I'm not sure why they are engineered this way. Other trucks, cars, and SUVs don't need to buzz to work.

Most cars are vacuum boosted brakes. Tacoma ORs have an electric pump brake booster instead which means you still have full brake assist power at idle or low rpm conditions when off-road.

I know it's electric on the OR. Never thought, I need full brake assist at this low rpm condition though. So I guess...thanks Toyota? Good looking out.

I don't care if it's electric, magnetic, vacuum boosted or brakes using unicorn farts. I don't want my pedal to buzz when I press the pedal.

It's a $35k truck that has the ability to modulate braking to each wheel without any pedal input.

Could it be more refined? Sure. My father-in-law's $85k land cruiser has no pedal feel when the accumulator pump spins up but it was over twice the cost of my truck so yeah, I'll deal with the incredibly minor pedal feel

The Brakes are like that so the truck can use the brakes without you pushing the pedal.

Interesting system, will need to do a little more research on how it actually works.

Ford has used a system they call "hydroboost" on several models over the years; engines with low or no vacuum (diesels), vehicles having no room for a vacuum booster (Mustangs mostly), and vehicles that needed more brake boost than vacuum could provide. It uses p/s pump hydraulic pressure for brake assistance and has proven quite reliable and not at all obtrusive...

It's fine for those uses but it would be a poor replacement for the electric system in our trucks.

Our trucks have full brake authority at idle, a hydroboost system still does not. It relies on pressure in the power steering system to provide the boost effect. In my opinion the electric system we have has less chance of failure off-road seeing as it's all combined in one location. No power steering lines/leaks or shredded belts to worry about.

When you're idling down a steep loose hill in 4Lo with DAC turned on it's nice to have the full pressure in the system. Same if you're going back up that loose slope in 4Lo with A-TRAC on.

Unless Toyota is using some sort of "fuel saving" power steering pump there will be gobs of p/s volume and pressure available at idle. As to p/s lines and the serpentine belt are they that fragile on the 3rd gens...

No idea on the strength of the lines or belts and they aren't likely to be a problem, but it is a potential point of failure that is negated by having the electric boost.

If you shread a belt on our trucks you are not going too far either as the battery is gonna die.

True, but you won't lose power brakes if you're in a bad spot and need them.

I don't think you would in a Hydroboost System either, the Engineers would obviously think of a failure like that and have a Check Valve in place to prevent complete loss of braking.
