I have a 2016 Quicksand Sport Access Cab with automatic transmission and looking to trade it in for a 2017 Offroad Crew Cab with a manual transmission. I want to do this for 3 reasons:
    1. I'm getting to dislike the color more and more as time goes on. When I bought this truck the 2016s just came out and it was my only color choice at the time.
    2. Too many times I needed a full back seat to carry extra people and now that my grandkids are getting bigger I need the crew cab.
    3. I miss a stick shift. This is my first automatic transmission, it's not a bad transmission, but I took a MT Tacoma for a test ride and fell in love with it.

So right now I'm trying to find a good deal on a basic TRD Offroad Crew Cab with a manual transmission. My first color choice is white and second choice is either red, blue or silver. But a TRD Offroad Crew cab with MT is kind of scarce, it seems like 95% of these models are AT. And I'd prefer a model without add-ons because I can buy the parts at discount, install them myself and save hundreds of dollars over factory installed accessories such as roof rack, running boards, mud flaps, etc.

Speaking of accessories, can anybody recommend a running board similar to the one in the photo? The one in the photo is a factory plastic coated flat running board that I bought for my 2011 access cab and swapped it to my 2016 access cab. I really don't like the metal tubular rails and the factory aluminum boards are like $800. Did Toyota make boards like the one in the photo for the 2nd Gen Tacomas that will fit the Gen 3s?

One more thing. My current truck has a 6' Access Original model roll-up tonneau cover that will not fit the 5' crew cab that I want. At the time I bought it, it was my only choice. It's a good cover but it leaks along the edges (I sealed the front corners). I've always used Truxedo covers so does anybody want to comment on these two brands or some other good quality roll-up?

Good luck in your search, the Manual Trans is a lot of fun.

At this point would recommend you go to your preferred dealer and order a 2018 Tacoma with the 6MT.

Order the manual as stated by the guy above, go with silver, it gets dirty but it won't show, also hides a lot of scratches. For your bed cover take a look at softtopper.com, you can also search in the forum for pictures to give you an idea of how they look. They also roll back if you choose to stow them to allow for bikes etc. to be loaded. Good luck with your decisions, you have a few to make.

Why not keep them and install them on your next Tacoma?

Won't the 18s be more money? They are discounting the 17s by $3000. My dealer can get pretty much what I'm looking for from other dealers but some of these other dealers are 100 miles away.

I read that white stays the cleanest and that silver is a good choice, too. I never heard of softtopper, I'll check them out.

They won't fit. Crew cab is longer in the middle, the bed is a foot shorter.

My bad. When I got sliders, they were the same for AC/LB and CC/SB. But your boards do not go back to the rear wheels.

The softtopper would not work for me. I want a flat top, roll up tonneau cover. Nothing more. It gives me a covered area to carry stuff but rolls out of the way to carry large items such as one of my motorcycles. I'd just like a roll up that is more water tight along the sides.

Congrats on a mans true 3 pedal transmission

    I went from a 16 TRD OR DCSB 6MT with moonroof to a 17PRO 6MT

No troubles at all. Great fun transmission

DC is a requirement for me. Too bad toyota makes you buy high end trucks if you want 4 door and stick shift

I would have loved a DCSB SR or SR5 6MT but alas Toyota doesn't want to sell that to us

Again great decision and best of luck

Come join us in our MT thread that MT master @nevadabugle moderates

I went with a LiteRider rollup and couldn't be happier. I can open the tail gate, roll up the cover, and have it back to closed/locked in about 20 seconds.

I bought some extra seal w/ adhesive on it to try and stop all the leaks, there is still a tiny leak up front but it's so small it stays in between the runners in the bed and nothing gets wet

keep in mind that the Sport 6MT variant has hill start assist. many seeking a MT truck would want to know about that.

I have never owned a White Vehicle but i can say Silver hides dirt quite well.

I've had manual transmissons all my life and only got the 2016 with AT because I thought that I was getting a travel trailer. But the AT drives me nuts on the highway, continually downshifting and upshifting which a MT does not do. And I got the access cab because I think it looks way better than the double cab and it also has the 6' bed. But I need the extra interior space of the double cab and will get the 5' bed because it looks silly with a 6' bed.

I looked up online what was the easiest color to keep clean and it was white. I've had silver before and it's a good color but I like the Tacoma in white. 2nd choice is red, 3rd is blue, 4th choice is silver. Not sure of the gray.

In the famous words of Mr. Wonderful "You are dead to me". What is nonsense you speak of??? Are you actually suggesting that you have to push an extra pedal and move a lever just to make your truck move??? Speak of such nonsense in my presence no more! Plus I won't even address dumping the best color ever!!!!! Be gone!!!!

Same here. Access cab is so much better. I think it's a lot easier to grab gear all from one spot rather than two senate doors. Plus it looks better.

You should check out a shift sense. The auto still kind of sucks but that makes it a lot better.
