Alternative question: How much money do you have invested in tools and experience in fabricating beefy stuff?

Depends how you look at it young grasshopper During high school I worked as a mechanic and racked up a 10k dollar snap on bill. At 19 I decided to quit my job and go to trade school for underwater welding, landed a sweet job afterwards in Japan and said fuck that snap on bill they can suck it! Snap on guy - 0. My credit score for 7 years - also zero lol that's my life story hope you enjoyed it

I've been called worse. Times that question 100 times over and you might not care how you answer it. I feel it's bad manners between strangers personally and makes me feel really uncomfortable. Definately would never be a question I would ask someone I don't know. But that's the way I was raised I guess

This is the funniest thing I've read on TW in a long time. Things obviously worked out for you after that.

Asking dollar amounts on the truck is nothing compared to complete strangers finding out that you built your bumpers / sliders/ whatever and asking you to do the same for them. Heck, they even offer to the buy the steel.

I'll do that for good friends and family, but the dude at the gas station who liked the bumper... get real man.

Yeah I've been asked how much to build a bumper before from random people. Then I ask what they want, what they're using it for, and they're like "I dunno I just want it to look good" Ok well you're paying the materials, I'll need your truck a few times throughout the build to mock stuff up, it's gonna take me a month, and then I would like to make some sort of profit on the labor. Not much because I like the practice, but at least a couple hundred bucks for my time. The response I usually get is "oh I thought you had your own shop or something and you could just do this on the side" Nope I do it for myself or for friends, not random people I run into in Sedona or at a gas station.

Got a few questions for those with a rear lt sua kit, do you have to relocate where you fill up your gas? do you need wheels spacers to clear? do you need to have bedsides? Planning on getting them later. how does it handle on road, casual driving? anything else to keep it mind?

I'm still waiting on parts to arrive to build mine, so others may be better to chime in. But dont need to relocate you gas filler. Depending on you set up, you may or may not need wheel spacers, and that will determine the thickness needed, but probably need something. Don't need bedsides, but you'll need to cut up your stock ones to clear tires if you don't. Depending on setup and tuning; handling will probably be stiffer than oem on road due to valving to allow the better off road capabilities.

I've only been asked a few times. But yes, time is the big thing. Sure I'll build you something on the cheap, but you are gonna pay me for not only the materials, but at least for a little bit of my time. No one seems to understand the time involved, especially when you aren't a full blown fan shop with every tool imaginable.

I even have a lot of tools and access to even more lol but when u tell someone the material is this much then labor is about 3x the material cost they flip out....that's where u hand them the grinder lol

Dude right? Every guy at work asks me the same shit when I take the truck in. I have to host a meeting so I can get everyone on the same page so I don't have to have the same 20 conversations
