pioneer AVIC GPS antenna location

For thos that have a avic head unit (mine is the avic-x710bt) can you tell me you installed your GPS antenna. I have read some of you just put it behind the head unit but I worry about the signal strength. My other thought is to run wire up to the left of the dash on top all be it a bit of an eye sore. I appreciate any thoughts/ ideas on this

Well my first location was on a little metal platform up under the compass-temp display but sat. location finding was really slow, so I moved it to a place above the glove box another metal platform that it just stuck too, works way better, it needs to see the sky, just not behind metal.

 

Great info, good to know. maybe I can find and area behind the HU that only has plastic above it. defiantly will make for a cleaner install!

 

I have a z110bt - put my gps antenna with metal pad right on top of head unit. No problems whatsoever. Called pioneer and they said that some people do this and he hasn't received any negative feedbacks. Keeps it nice and hidden.

 

good suggestion. did you use the magnetic pad or just right on top?

 

I put magnetic pad on top of HU and placed antenna on top of pad. No problems with navi and my satellite connections status is fine. BTW - Avic Z110BT is a great unit. Works great with a back-up camera. 7 inch screen FTW.

 

I have a D3 and mounted my GPS antenna on the top corner of the front fender. There's a flat spot there and it sits perfect.

 

I got my F90BT used, so it didn't have the metal pad and couldn't find the one I made when I had a Z1, also check out avic411.com site, lots of info.

 

I chose the area right next to where the rear view mirror mount enters the headliner. It's black/shaded and you never even notice the GPS antaena up there. I just used a dab of clear silicone on the GPS thing and stuck it up there on the shaded area. Works perfect and you really don't see it.

If you mount it with silicone just put some tape over it for like 3 hours or so till it dries. Then it wont EVER come down!

 

The easiest place is just inside the truck on the passenger side between the dash and the windshield. It's protected from the elements, has a clear view to the sky, and is out of the way. No headaches either. I'll post a pick when I get a chance. By the way, never have had any problems with my GPS or Satellite reception.

 

I have an Eclipse AVN726E and placed the gps antenna right on top of the head unit, and slipped it in dash. Makes for a clean install

 

Same here and no issues with GPS signal

 

I have a AVIC F 700 BT ...I put mine in the bottom corner of the windshleld on the passenger side... works great.... 'cept in parkades!

 

I just installed a Pioneer AVIC X910BT, and I put my GPS antenna under the dash on top of the plastic AC vent (just to the right of the HU). I mounted the metal plate there, and just wedged the antenna between the plate and the dash. It's a tight fit, and it isn't going to budge. My reception has been spot-on.

 

No one here uses the roof? I ran my wire thru the firewall and up the "gutter" of the windshield on the driver's side. It sits on my roof. Best reception possible

 

I have the Z110BT and mine is in the same place. I considered "hiding" it like some others have, but decided against it because I've always been under the impression that satelites work better if they have a clear line of sight.

However, I know a few people that have mounted them on top of the head unit and never had a problem with reception (at least they'll never admit to it )

 

i have the alpine w-505 i tried the antenna inside the dash, worked just as well as on top of the cab. So it is back inside the dash.
