Would i still be able to close my softopper? It'll keep the snow out from between the topper and rear window

Yes, but in a design project, the designers must balance this with cost and real world effect. Look at how many people responded to the front air dam, even though it made the truck more aerodynamic. It may actually be too small to produce a real result, but its form is easily indicative of a more aerodynamic profile.

In reality, a cab spoiler probably had to be much larger to produce a real effect. Considering that air over the cab travels to the bed cover or empty bed air pocket, then over the tailgate which already has a spoiler, that area might just not have needed much improvement per the cost of manufacturing cab spoilers.

If it would have sold, they would have put an aeroshell on it and realistically improved MPG. But it wouldn't look the way a Tacoma is intended to look, (athletic and aggressive) and they aren't -seemingly- functional. Not to mention the cost of designing and manufacturing a sloped camper shell for a possible 1-2 MPG improvement combined.

Your soft topper would have a lean to it in front when fully "erect".

If a lifted bro'd out TRD Tacoma is street legal, I'm sure add-on rice would be.

I'm gonna be that one guy who somehow shitposts with actual aerodynamic theory.

It's in the wrong place. I mean, yeah, it might make some difference, but what you really want is the edge of the tailgate to be as far back as you can feasibly make it.

Look at the F150, notice how they didn't put a cab spoiler but that tailgate is clearly extended and shaped to become a spoiler:

There's another good view, you can clearly see what they did. That bulge & shape isn't there for no reason. When you ease the transition of the air coming off of the back of the truck, you get a noticeable drag reduction. However it's not always feasible to design a wacky ass spoiler because people do need to load shit into the bed from there.

This is why I am still interested in the Airdesign tailgate spoiler, if Airdesign would ever pull their heads out of their asses and make it easy to find their products for sale.

Can you put me down for 2 and 3? Always good to have a spare. Maybe I'll stack them for 2x performance gains.

Very close. For those that are interested in aerodynamics, you want the tailgate lip to be as *wide* as possible, hence the design of the F150. This is because of the laminar flow reattachment point optimized for highway speeds needs to reconnect flow with the tailgate. The air will flow over the cab, and down over the air pocket in the bed. For optimum efficiency this airflow must strike the top of the tailgate to minimize drag. Having a wider target makes this easier and also gives a broader operating speed range to minimize the drag and thus improve MPGs of the truck. The topic of tailgate spoilers and their role in drag reduction was presented at this years 2017 SAE World Congress.

Whatever spoiler that is would certainly FUBAR this calculation and introduce more drag by affecting the reattachment point in an empty bed.
