Went out wheeling this weekend, terrain was pretty bumpy. When I got home I noticed some fluid on the bottom of my front coilover. Is this normal? It's not very much. Should I be concerned? Rebuild? Contact icon? They have about 10k on them. Mostly road, it's a DD.

Time for a rebuild, been leaking longer than you think.

DSM or DC shock services can get you squared away.

Is it something I can do? It's my daily driver, so I can't really just send it off for a few weeks.

What did you do with your old set up? I kept mine for instances like this. Since my truck is my DD too. Put your previous set up back in and send those off for a rebuild.

I have my stock coilovers. But I don't think those will work with my 32s? Do you think I should rebuild them both? I think they are still within the one year warranty

I would. Maybe you can find some cheap coilovers on the NorCal thread to slap on your truck so you can send those Icons back. Get ahold of Icon first thing in the morning and see if you can get a new set. Doesn't hurt to try. GL!

Definitely send them back. I've heard Icon is a bit slow but now that they've shut down their rebuilding service to the general public and only do warranty work, it should be quick. You can run 32's no problem with stock suspension, just don't go wheeling or hitting the malls hard.

Otherwise there are shops around the bay that can rebuild.

It is something you can do if your mechanically inclined but you will need a few specialty tools.

If it's really within the warranty call Icon

Ill definitely call and see what they can do. But they have been on the truck for like 6 months, is this normal?

Did you air down for your off-road adventure?
Bumpy/washboard roads + full pressure + speed can cause shocks to leak.

I didn't air down on the way in, but on the way out I was down at 12-14 psi

What is your reasoning for this?

If that was the case any and all Baja 1000 racers would have to have their shocks rebuilt 1/2 through the race?

OP: Not normal but that's what can happen putting race car parts on DD's.

At lower pressure the tires help absorb the bumps and take some of the stress of the shocks, so they dont get as hot. That plus remote reservoirs keep the shocks at a manageable temperature. At least that's how I understand it.
I don't race or work on race trucks so idk exactly what psi they run at or how often they rebuild their shocks.

Yes the ride back down was much better at a lower PSI i just didnt have the deflators or I would have aired down at the start.

I've worked on a off road race car or 2 and rebuilt a "few" shocks the last 15 years. Soooooooooooo while lower tire PSI helps smooth out for the occupants it does nothing to control oil temps for bolt in shocks. All shocks on the market run Buna seals that melt out around 280-300F. Of the bolt in toyota shocks I've done I have yet to see that happen. You can't drive fast enough with bolt on MT shocks to generate enough heat to even worry about. Now this only applies to 2.5" Coilovers Remote resi or not.

Here's a vid on how to rebuild. You just need a seal kit and shock oil for parts.

I'm going to see what Icon will do for me first, but if this is going to happen this fast, Ill need to learn to rebuild them. I'm pretty mechanically inclined.

Sucks OP. hopefully icon can help you out. No one wants to spend $1000 on shocks for 10k miles of service.
