What airspeed does a R22 do in the pattern?

Man that's slow. I figured they'd do at least 80. I can see why a controller would be frustrated with mixed traffic in the pattern.

Instructing auto rotations to a hover, looked up and saw this guy.

(He was taxiing to the base of the tower, I heard him get cleared and we were well clear, which is why I was able to get my phone out. But it made for a fun picture, even after maxing out the zoom lol)

Keep in mind, unless it's a brand new student, we get two patterns in for every Cessna's one. MUCH smaller, tighter patterns.

Honestly, I hate when a controller sticks us number two behind the fixed wing guys. We get half as many approaches in, at best. It just wastes the students' time and money. We have one controller that seems to like to do that. Even assigns us left traffic with the fixed wing flow. I'm almost to the point of getting a copy of his schedule and planning flights around it.

It's too bad purchase price and operating costs are so high for helicopters and guys are stuck with learning on R22s.

Where I work the helicopter guys are awesome to work with but needy. But they usually do nothing but pattern work ALL day long which no big deal but when you have 2 t-1s, 1 c-130 followed by a PA-44in left traffic an right traffic 4 c-172s an a pa-28 we have 2 parallel runways. An they do what seems grass grows faster on final an on the rwy for 3 min at a time. This is the frustration but when they start doing short approaches they can mix with anything.

I've worked rotary all my career from the army till now. But the rotary wings students have to fly like a fixed wing. Can't do the fun stuff an move on their marry way. Was a big learning curve for me professionally working with all students when I'm used to professionals. But have learnt a great deal of patience an forgiving on the 1.5 min transmission just to report midfield haha. But good luck sounds like you have a grumpy controller we are not like that we're all hyped up on monsters an cookies.

Hey now, be nice. The plane has feeling too. And it only flies itself when I tell it to.
In fact, that's what makes these planes so fun. There is very little automation compared to bigger gets or the airliners.
Truckee and South Lake Tahoe airport have large circles to park in. I haven't really seen it anywhere else. Except Concord, CA airport but that's because they used to park Hueys in them.
