2WD Lift?

Hey Guys,
I am looking to lift my truck. I mainly want to do it for the look. I most likely will not be taking if off road. This is the only thing I am missing from my perfect truck (4x4), however I couldn't come up with the extra 4-5 thousand dollars. Minus that I love my truck but I just like the higher look better. I was wondering if I should go body lift or suspension lift. Which lift should I get installed? Since I won't be taking it off road bajain' or anything I don't see a point is putting a crap load of money into a lift, because my next one will be a 4x4 and the major lift will go onto that one. I have seen the Truxxx lift kits but that is a body lift and I have heard those are not worth the money. Just let me know you guys thoughts of lifting a 2wd. Thanks to all.

Bilstein 5100s and an AAL in the back. Should only be around $500 and a better ride

 

Definitely don't do a body lift. They just look horrible. Since you aren't going to wheel it you could go with a top plate spacer lift which will stiffen your ride, or go with the 5100s which maxed out will also stiffen your ride but will be much better than the spacer lift.

 

Does it ride any better and is the lift body or suspension?
Oh and how much of a lift are we talking?

I had a lifted 2x4..... hated it every day i drove it.

 

Was it a Tacoma? And, why did you hate it? The only difference between a Prerunner and 4X4 is the 4WD so I certainly don't see how a lift would make one better than the other.

v6 with 35's it was terrible. No power, poor handling bad MPG, It was just a poser. All it did was look cool.


To me lifted 2wd's are street queens/posers

I personally I would never lift lift a pre runner. They are way cool with long travel suspension. That would be worth it for me. Blasting through the desert looks like a blast. Just putting a cheap lift on a pre runner is different though no thanks.

My last truck was lifted with spacers up front and blocks in the back. I would never own a vehicle with that done to it again terrible ride quality.

Coil overs and AAL are the only way to go.

Bullet, 5100s have four lift settings: 0, .85, 1.75, and 2.5 inches. The higher you go the stiffer your ride, and the closer you get to 3 inches might cause your alignment to be out of wack, and you'll need aftermarket UCAs to get it back into spec. Most members will tell you that once you get around three inches of lift, you ahold probably also get UCAs

 

I would go with 5100's all around(1.75 setting) and do the leaf spring TSB. Not sure if it applies to your truck. Look into it. You should be very happy with the way the truck looks and how it drives after this. Also, not alot of $$ invested!!! This is how mine looked with this set-up and 265/70/17's

Please excuse my ignorance. If I go 1.75 with the 5100's, will this offer a better ride than stock?
Since, I will be getting the leaf spring TSB done Fri. Apr. 2nd and the toyota tech said the TSB also calls for an alignment, I assumed that with any kind of suspension change, an alignment is required. Is this correct? Also, there is a post above these that says "Hey Buy Mine". This is a spacer lift correct? Is a spacer lift kit body or suspension?
$500.00 range is desent, however it sounds like this maybe more trouble than it is worth on a 2wd. Will the spacer kit above stiffen up the ride a lot. To Be Continued......Have to go back to work.

 

I had a different spacer kit on my truck than this one, I don't know what a stiffer ride feels like but I always found my ride to suit me fine, of course i've driven trucks all my life the pic in my sig is of the spacer lift installed, I switched to 5100's set @ 2.5"cause I got a wicked deal/steal on em, but lost 3/4" in the front and with the grill guard installed I didn't like the way it nosed down in the front, unleveled. So now I bought some toytec 3/4" spacers to get it leveled again.

I would also recommend the UCA's as something to get down the road I ran my stock UCA's for almost a year with no problems of course I don't off-road I only drive in the city so there wasn't really anything to really wear out the cv boot/joint. The spacer kit i'm selling is a suspension lift full 3" leveled with a front spacer and 2" AAL in the rear. I never used it because I bought it after I already had the top plate spacer kit installed, If your getting the TSB done and with the longer AAL from toytec you shouldn't have any issues in the rear suspension in fact it'll be smoother.

The toytec lift comes with two spacers one that sits between the spring and the top plate and one that goes on above the top plate, it'll compress the spring a bit but not much so the ride wouldn't be as "stiff" as other spacer lift's. Of course any suspension changes you do even in the slightest will require an alignment so that is a given on anything you do. Exactly. Comparing an F150 to a Tacoma is ridiculous and additional ground clearance has nothing to do with whether a truck is 4X4 or 4X2.

How about a Old man Emu (OME) lift from along with some Light raceing UCAs, and a aal. Just for a little over a grand. You can pm neubs for a discount....Just rember do you really want to put your 20-30 thousand dollar truck on a $200 lift.

 

For a G he could get coilovers, it's all in how much you want to spend and what your going to use your truck for, any lfit will have/make the springs stiffer, whether you go with a spacer or the OME's or coilovers, I know guys that run the OME's, billies, and spacers on there tacos's i've ran 2 of the 3 and never had a problem with them. And yes I did put a $200 dollar lift on my $30,000 truck.

 

Bullet, talk to your Toyota tech and see if he has a problem with you bringing him the truck for the TSB AFTER you install the 5100's. This way, you can take advantage of the alignment job that goes with the TSB. Otherwise, your gonna have to pay for an alignment if you install the 5100's after the TSB. This is how I did it and it saved me some $$. BTW, the truck will ride much better than stock with the 5100's and leaf spring TSB.
