This started with me wanting the new Colorado ZR2 with the 2.8L Duramax. I went down to the dealer I bought my Camaro from to trade it in for the truck. Reason being, I had always been a truck owner and had sold my second vehicle, a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500. I've also built dedicated offroad rigs as a hobby. The new ZR2 caught my eye, decided the Camaro had to go.

Long story short, the Chevy dealer tried screwing me hard on the trade and refused to honor the GM Military Discount. So I went to Toyota, saw the Tacoma was available with a manual trans and offroad package. My car was stick, so I was glad to not have to get an auto. Got a fair trade on my car and drove the truck home.

It's a 2017 Barcelona Red, Double cab, TRD Off-Road, tech/tow package, with the 6 speed manual trans.

I love the truck. I've never had a coil over IFS truck, it rides so well over rough terrain... A far cry from my solid axle rigs. The Dodge I had was a spine tingler on pavement. The suspension is my favorite part. Second being the manual trans and dirt nasty low gearing. I did the math and it's something like 43:1 crawl ratio. That's insane. It crawls slower than my M1028 CUCV did on 42" tires. Third, Toyota solved the direct injection valve coking issues the rest of the industry is dealing with! Genius! I really think it's a better thought out product for it's intended purpose compared to the Z71 AND ZR2.

I've been a die hard Chevrolet owner ever since I bought my first vehicle, and drove one ever since until last week. I guess I'll stick with vintage GM products. There's a 71 GMC C20 in my garage with a 406 SBC.

Good job Toyota. You got a new customer.

I've only done a little softcore offroad stuff.

I think for the Tacoma, nice adjustable coilovers and skid plates will be enough for me.

So I've been on this forum for like, a day... And I'm already sick of all the whiners and haters. Ive never seen so many people bent out of shape over simple repairs. Maybe I'm biased, being an automotive technician myself. Nothing I've seen is that serious.

I'm a member on the 4Runner forums as well as here. Over here there is about 6000% more whining. But the forum does have a lot of good info.

The Camaro5 forum isn't even this bad. And 90% of Camaro owners are Bros who don't know what a screw driver does.

There is some good info. I had a good chuckle over the differential recall threads. How dare a manufacturer not want to follow GM's lead and literally kill people vs fix problems!

Those guys on the other forum have cash to pay another bro to fix it. We get left out in the cold by Toyota and usually spend more in planning our trips than repairs. We have a ton of OCD, adhd, and autism along with many other issues. Plus we get pissy easily. Lol. Welcome to TW!
