My wife's extended spring cleaning(the military campaign that it is), has resulted in me needing to ctrl-alt-delete just about everything in my workshop that isn't deemed "necessary". I fear one day I may wind up on the same list!

Anyway, a while back I acquired a large Industrial cabinet from a machine shop that was having liquidation auction. I just wanted to cabinet, but lo and behold, when it came time to remove the item I discovered well over 150lbs worth of Random welding and hydraulic valve parts. The stuff is admittedly not my forte, so I don't even know what half the stuff is, or if there's any value to it/worth trying to sell for few bucks.

I'd sincerely appreciate if there's anyone out there who can help me Identify some of this stuff and let me know if I should try and sell it along with what I should ask.

I know what some of the more obvious items are, but again, no idea if there's any worth to this stuff, or if it needs to be scrapped. A lot of this stuff is/was unopened when I got the lot.

Fortunately I found use for a lot of the more standard parts/tools. This is what's left over.

Oh, let's not forget about the O-ring collection I inadvertently acquired! Sad part is, these are just the ones I took the time to gather together.

Looks like my Junk drawers got emptied out.

I have this habit of keeping anything that I might have a use for .

Having Depression era parents on both sides it is easy to fall into this habit

I worked on getting the two doors tacked and hung yesterday, and am planning to get a third door on the side of the fire box for extra access and cleaning.

Anyone have a recommendation for a book on basic welding / fabrication. You all mentioned changing the positioning of the plate last time I posted some photos of my joints and welds and I'm thinking an instructional book showing basic concepts like that would be helpful. Does that make sense? Any recommendations would be awesome.

YouTube is your friend in my experience. There's a ton of how to videos on there for anything you can think of. I would try that

Yes, YouTube is great and I have watched a few hours worth of videos.

I’m gonna look for some books at the library. I just want to have something in front of me to look that isn’t a phone or computer.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback, as always.

That is how I set up the hinge mechanism. The first time I tried getting them on I blew right through the tube and welded everything together.

This time I dropped the voltage and wire speed down and burned in some material. Then I upped the voltage to, I guess, tack the tack to the plate.

Any good way to fill in that gap between the round tube and plate? Should I just leave it tacked instead of laying a bead?

You should have no trouble concentrating the weld on the plate and letting the weld "wash" onto the tube.

If the tacks look good to you, you can leave it as it is. Your tacks look plenty strong and neat.

I have found my all time Favorite Welding Book to be

Welding Principals and Practices by Raymond Sacks

I doubt it has any of the new High Tech stuff as it was written in 1976 with some of the information it seems from when I was welding on that big Ark

How the story got started it was wood I have no idea

Well, I think that answers that question, eh?

Well, if it doesn't look like I'll be able to sell any of this stuff, it's likely to all be put on Craigslist for someone to pick up. Seems like a waste, but hey, that's a small price to pay to to appease the powers that be.......or was it, powers that she?

    I can never remember:rolleyes:

You might want to do a couple 1/2in beads, if you're having issues with it blowing through, for something like that you can do a series of tacks.

You can also put single tacks alternating them to opposite areas of the tube, overlapping them as you move around to disburse the heat instead of concentrating it all in one area. What kind of steel is the tube?
