Well hell! About 30 minutes ago I started getting a vibration and some noise from the truck. Thought it was not going to be that bad. I only had 15 miles to get home....

Well THAT didn't happen! Stuck on side of road now waiting on tow truck. Something broke in the rear diff... good thing it didn't happen on my trip to Nashville on Monday!

Actual axle breakage? I'll bet against it. I mean just because........

Be sure to let us know.

Man that sucks. Not even off-roading! I just sent you a pm that might help you pay for a new third if that's what you end up needing.

When I say rear axle broke I mean something in the rear differential gave out. I am suspecting spider gears, but not 100% sure. The axle itself is out of a 1998 prerunner with e-locker option, and I swapped in 4.56 gears a few years back. As soon as I get the time I'll pull the 3rd member and see what is up.

I'm sorry to hear that. Can you let us know how you're able to fix your rear axle? It would be useful to the rest of us considering how old these trucks are already.

Put it in 4x4 and drive home with front wheel drive, that's what my friend did with hers :p

Sorry about your bad luck though, good luck!

The rear diff still turns even if driving off the front, so that wouldn't have helped, but thanks. I've done it before with a busted driveshaft!

No updates yet. trying to get time to do this while still building the bearing assemblies that I am a little behind on is a challenge! lol
