File a claim on both vehicles and wash your hands of them.

Whatever ends up happening hopefully it all works out for you. I really feel for the people who have lost everything.

Auto and home are different types of policies. Flood damage should be covered on a vehicle, provided you carry comprehensive coverage. Homeowners is different and there needs to be an activating event to trigger coverage, in your example, had wind blown the tree down, it likely would have been a covered loss, whereas the tree just falling may have affected your neighbor's coverage differently

In my past life, I was a homeowners adjuster, and that's how our policies worked, which was fairly standard across the industry.

    Thanks!
For sure not anywhere near the fuse box.
I'm hoping I can just replace the flooring.....and have the electrical checked that is in the flooring.
I plan on taking it in to the Toyota dealer in the morning.

And yes I already filed 2 claims, one for the Honda and one for the Taco via USAA.
The have always been great in the past.....the only claim I have made in 40 years with them was a water line that popped off the dishwasher while I was at work and flooded most of my house, 2,300 sq. ft. single story.
    $39K of damage....repairs.
    Krazy!

    That would suck !
Well since I filed on-line earlier today for 2 vehicles, already got an adjuster coming to both on Thursday barring any worse flooding.....USAA insurance....40 years with them....only one claim ever.

yea i had a slab water leak.....they fixed and them my name went on the national water damage database for ever....I too have had USAA for over 44 years and they are great....just a phone call away...had a new 1973 Pontiac Tempest LeMans.....some asshole at the base put five pounds of sugar in tank...went to base gas station to fill up and go get my wife and new baby from the hostile and they did not want to give me gas...USAA wanted to deduct 1% for every 1,ooo miles i had of the bill...but they relented and paid for everything..Great insurance and the two dividend i get each year are very nice.....so is the subscribers saving account!!!

Pull the seats and carpet out. Water in a car in Thailand is normal as long as no water in the engine don't worry.. I had that happen in my international scout.. Drained the oil at my shop and nothing was wrong.

I've had water over the hood. As long as it doesn't get inside the intake I wouldn't worry

I witnessed a lifetime of flooded vehicle situations. Most people, that were able, took the insurance and moved on.

Others took the fix-it route. Some lucked out and had many worry free miles out of their rides. With the others, problems showed up months later when the wiring itself started corroding.

Time is money and electrical trouble that is sporatic will be expensive to find and fix.

    It's a gamble.

Good luck with your truck and your other recovery problems.

    Insurance.....

If not, Pull the seats and carpet, stick truck and everything else in garage with a dehumidifier to dry out. Change the diff oil, transmission fluid, front diff oil (If applicable)..... the engine oil is probably fine. Might re-grease everything.

    I think that's it.

Based on my previous toyota experiences, I would clean and dry the ABS sensors. Not sure if the Tacoma has them built into the hubs like my Corolla did. Such a dumb design. One of the reasons I traded it in.

I am 25+ with state farm, never filed a claim. Hopefully being it's USAA your claim will be taken care of quickly! Stay positive, it will all work out in the end. Hell if they total it now you can go get that pro!

I have friend who works for State Farm & the last storm that went through Houston he recommended to work through the insurance company. They will pay the 3rd party approved collision center to dry everything out check all the fluids/rip put the carpets/wiring check/etc. Just make sure as the rest of the members have eluded to is that you insist on all new carpet/wiring connections greased or sprayed etc. This way you get warranty for the work versus you doing it on your own. The only risk for the insurance route is they what call Diminished Returned Value since by Texas law truck has to be listed as flood damage so make sure you ask for this since if you trade it in the dealership will give between #1500-$2500 less trade in allowance. I would go though insurance & have professionals take care of it. Just make sure your firm in what you want done to the truck. Sorry about your problem. I am waiting for new TRD Pro & have the same worry os the truck flood damaged I'll be sure to have my mechanic friend on hand to check it out.
