Squeaky Suspention

Does Anybody else seem to have really squeaky suspenision, i think mine is coming from the rear? Or Does anybody know why that would be happening?

 

Happens on occasion. Rinse thoroughly with high pressure water, let dry, and then apply some graphite or teflon lubricant if needed (you can get spray stuff from Lowes...DuPont makes a good one...)

Avoid WD-40 or other oil based lubes...they *attract* and *collect* dirt/gunk.

 

^^ what he said. If that doesnt work you will have to separate the leaf springs and lub the friction pads with some GP grease.

 

WD-40 worked for me... I just sprayed the leaves and the noise went away. That was about a year ago and it hasnt come back.

It's most likely your leaf springs making most of the noise. It's from all the sand and dirt stuck in the existing grease. I've greased mine before but didn't bother cleaning them too so the squeaking came back quickly.

Does WD-40 really work? That seems so much easier than tearing the leafs apart.

 

WD-40 will work...but it will also trap dirt inbetween the leaves and in the centering pin.
Not a huge deal-but I can contribute to the issue. If you drive in dusty or muddy conditions- It can make a mess. WD-40 is also a water displacer...SO cleaning the old gunk out can be a bit harder.

If it works for you- Great. Go for it. I wouldn't recommend it tho. Specially not if you have rubber bushings that are squeaking.

 

There is a Technical Service Bulletin on 05 tacomas (maybe other years) for the leaf springs being overly squaky. They claim its caused by those rubber bushings. And the only way to truely "fix" it is by taking the leafs completely apart and cleaning/greasing them. And that only lasts until it starts squeaking again.

 

Worked perfectly for me... it was almost too easy. My problem seems to be from either dirt or surface rust issue. I sprayed WD40 on the parts seems dirtiest/rustiest... basically points where your leafs first make contact. I used the straw spray nozzle to blow all the dirt/rust away. Then I jumped on the bed a few times to work it in to the gaps.

I think it worked on mine due to WD-40s rust removing ability. Like I said, the noise hasn't come back in a year.

 

Do you drive off road much?

 

i had the same problem it went away in less than a week on its own it mainly form dirt

 

well i cleaned them with water, and put LPS 1 on them and the problem is gone

Jack up the truck(To give your self more room) then use a long screw driver or pry bar to spread the leafs apart. Remove the silencer pads(at the end of each leaf) 4 per a side iirc. clean them off and clean where you removed the pads from. Lube the pads up really well with grease from a stick what would go in a grease gun. I also lube where I put the pads back using popsicle sticks just to be certain I had everything covered. Then put the silencer pads back in the whole and make sure the seat properly. If not then you'll notice a gap between the leafs. Remove the screwdriver or pry bar. Repeat for all 8 and you should be squeak free.

 

Don't hit too many trails but I do live in Montana. There are more unpaved dirt roads then there are paved roads.
