I'm looking for a watch for everyday use. Not looking for a dress watch just a decent looking outdoor or workout watch. Right now I'm looking at the Suunto Core Crush and the Garmin Forerunner 230 (figured this might be nice for my workouts). I really like the large face on both of these watches. Large face, waterproof and durable are the main things I'm looking for in a watch. Would like to hear some recommendations or some comments on the watches listed.

*Not really a fan of the Gshock watches just based on looks, would still consider it.

    Thanks for any input!

    Ben

Installed Overhead Compass and Temperature Display along with outside temperature sensor and wiring; LED lights reverse backup; LED license plate lights; Added GTA Bluetooth Audio kit to stock radio for iphone audio; Spare tire steel braided air hose extension connection to rear bumper; Installed new headlights along with new bulbs PIAA H4 XTreme and for fog lights PIAA H10 XTreme bulbs. Installed new hood with "hood-scoop". Installed Predator Side Steps. Replaced front chrome grill with customized color matched (Desert Sand Mica) grill with added TOYOTA lettering (also in matched color), installed and secured tailgate anti-theft devices. Also installed a new external TPMS monitor for all 4 tires.
I'm into wrist watches and have a small collection.

Here's my $0.02 in all this.

Your choice all depends on two basic things:

1.) What type of watch do you want, battery operated, self-winding or manual wind watch?

2.) How much are you willing to spend?

My humble watch collection consist of a dollar amount range from a couple hundred bucks $ to a couple of thousand bucks $ and everything in between.
There was a time that I had over 40 wrist watches, now down to around half that.

Out of my collection this Maratac brand is one of my favorites that I like wearing a lot. I like it so much that I have two of them! Also bought one exactly like it for my wife's collection as well, except its smaller in diameter size more for a woman's wrist. I describe it's movement as a semi-automatic. Reason being is that the watch has a self winding mechanism. It has a 48 hour reserve as well.

The watch is durable and made to last. I love the Nylon strap that it comes with, which is better than a leather strap. If or when wearing a leather strap and when your arm starts to sweat well now your leather watch strap starts to smell! Also better than a stainless steel strap as well. Don't have to worry if the watch gets wet, etc. The face of the watch is not clutter (as you can see) gives a clear presentation of time and at night the lume of the numbers is bright and clear.

Personally I destroy watches because I forget to take them off and do everything with one on. I have been wearing a Tag Heure Formula one for over ten years. It has been one of the only ones to stand the test of time. It doesnt have the largest face on them but you wanted durability and it has it. At the moment I am wearing a Citizen eco-drive and it is also very nice but I am taking a bit more care with it. A bit better price point than the Tag but I also don't expect it to take as much abuse.

I've had my Aquaracer for 3 years, wear it every day, 6 months in the Middle East. I used to buy Fossil, they would break in under a year so I upgraded to a Citizen which is still fine, I just treated my self and bought the Tag Heuer. It's worth it to spend a little more for quality.

My everyday watch because it can handle it and still works. And...

    IMAG1660.jpg
Probably my favorite but gets litre use, and there are about 6-7 more that never get worn.

In my honest opinion you can't beat the Citizen Eco-Drive. I bought my first one right out of basic training. I have tried a few other ones since then, but I always wind up disappointed. One day I might get a really fancy watch, but for day to day you can't beat the Citizen. My favorite of the three I own is a Citizen Eco-Drive Perpetual Calandar. Mine syncs with the atomic clock in boulder, Colorado every day to make sure the time is perfect. It also keeps track of how many days are in each month, and leap year, so I never have to worry about checking the date either. Ever since I set the watch the only thing I've had to adjust or set on it is when I travel and change time zones. I can throw it on everyday and not even think about it.

Garmin Tactix worked very well for my line of work. Very functional and durable watch. IMG_2219.jpg

I've had the Suunto Core for about 5 years and have beat the hell out of it with 3 trips to Afghanistan and all sorts of other military training. Thing won't die and I've replaced the battery twice. The altimeter is fairly accurate as well. My only gripe is within about two years the paint on the bezel started two fade but again it was daily use in both training and deployment environments.

My brother in law loves his Suunto core, he's a fire fighter and concealed spaces rescue man. I love my luminox 3802, but I broke it last year crashing on my motorcycle doing 40 on a dirt road. It just won't keep accurate time now. I now have a g shock and it is nice, but miss the simplicity and light weight of the luminox. I do like the weight and looks of my b.i.l. Suunto core

Looks like you want a digital watch with big numbers.

Garmins Fenix 5x is basically a combination the two you're looking at. It's got all the outdoor stuff of the Core with all the fitness stuff of the forerunner...But it also costs more than the two watches combined.

Imo fitness watches sound great but in practice rely on marketing to sell rather than function.

I'd go with the Core crush, or step up to the ambit if you need gps.

I have been wearing a Rolex Air-King everyday, while doing everything, for 35 years this Christmas--the only time I have not worn it is when it was being serviced--three times in those years. It shows its age and could use a new face but other than that it just keeps on ticking:

ill throw in my vote for a eco-drive. ive had mine for 8 or so years now and I wear It everywhere I go except when I head offshore (then I use my "shitty" timex expedition watch because of the alarm function" its got scratches, and chips on it but its never once quit and ive NEVER needed to have it serviced or have a battery replaced. its a little heavy for things like mountain biking, but for everything else, its perfect. you can read the watch face all night. its been one hell of a watch and I couldn't imagine it getting any more enjoyable to wear.

I have A Casio G-shock Mudman. I know you say you don't like the looks, but I don't even know it's on my arm, it's so light. If you're worried about it getting dirty, it's hard to beat some of the G-shock watches. I get it absolutely filthy at work, completely covered in the nastiest stuff you can think of, and it cleans right up with an old toothbrush while rinsing under water.

I have a Tag Heuer that I bought years ago but I break the pins for the watch band because I catch it on everything. It's just too big. So now I use my phone. It's been sitting in my desk for a long time, if anyone wan't to make me an offer on it I doubt I'd say no. It needs a battery and a wristband pin.
