This is more of a venting thread then anything else. It's been a frustrating week.

My 2015 Taco (Double cab SB v6 manual) was rear-ended. Luckily, no one was hurt. I was not at fault. It destroyed the bumper, bent and cracked the composite bed, bent the frame, and damaged the bottom cab corners. The damage is estimated at over $24K. The truck has 31K kms on the odometer. The value before the accident is about $32K (CDN). I fear they won't write it off because then I'm stuck with a truck that has had a $24K repair bill, which just kills my resale value. There's no way I could get $32K as trade in now!

    Anyways...frustrating week.

Total is a % of the value.

Value usually isn't retail book, but loan.

With the numbers you're tossing, I'll bet you a diet Coke you get your wish.

The initial repair estimate is likely not the total it would take to repair.

They look at the cost of repair and compare it to the cost they would pay you plus whatever they get from parting it out at a salvage yard. Whatever cost the insurance less is what you get. IMO it's totaled. Very sorry.

You really shouldn't be crying over resale value. If you buy cars with intent to sell soon, you know you are pissing away money, so can't really ger upset about it.

Fight with their insurance company to get it totalled. Usually with a bent frame you have to fight with the insurance to NOT total it out. Its too much of a risk for then. Its a shit ton in repairs, 6-7 months of car rental time, and then you have to hope nothing went wrong with the install.

Yeah you are pissing money away if you trade in and out of new vehicles frequently, but this is still a few thousand more dollars pissed away than otherwise would have been. Actually if it isn't totaled op, you should look into diminished value recovery.

Is this a pretty stock truck, I hope? Insurance doesn't put too much value in mods. (Unless it is speciality car insurance) Be ready to push back for as much value as possible. Good luck and I hope they do the right thing.

You can take the estimated damages, sell the vehicle damaged to a wholesaler, and hopefully it'll get you close to a new truck. 2015 isn't that old.
    My example.
In 2011 my 2002 Taco auto 2wd was damaged front end. Had to be towed, insurance estimated at 5000 damage but truck was worth 10200 so they wouldn't total it. The estimated damage didn't take into account probable damage to water pump, tranny as radiator and tranny cooler were cracked, A/c on when accident happened, etc.
Sold it on line for 2600, added to the 5000 and went and bought a new truck. I was caught with alot of outlay as it was 10 years old by that time, but only 77k miles.
Point is check with online offer for the wreck. You'll do much better with a 3 yr old truck this way.
These trucks hold their value so well you could make out good.
I sold it at the repair place; they let me store it to make a decision. I had to pay 200 teardown fee out of my 5000 to complete the estimate. Thecarforcash (no longer in business) arranged a local tow at their expense, I was there with the title, did it in the lot, got cert. check on the spot, done. Little more complicated with a lien title.
Give them pics plus VIN and they'll jump to give u an offer....
    Good Luck

UPDATE: Found out yesterday that the insurance company decided the truck was too expensive to repair, so it is considered a write-off. Looks like I'm going truck shopping.
