I have a 2009 tacoma 4x4 with the 4.0 V6. The check engine light and slip indicator light are both on. The transmission will not shift in to 5th (overdrive). Code P0333 is being thrown which I am told is a knock sensor. The lights will sometimes dissappear but the truck seems to run fine all of the time. Can anyone help?

My 05 Tacoma 4.0 has not had a knock sensor light come on since it got cold outside, will it come back when warm weather gets here? I hope not , got it through emission so its good for two years and it doesn't affect the performance of the Engine. Dan.

I'm having the exact same problem - any luck finding a cause/remedy?

Most likely cause is something chewed the wiring, unfortunately you have to pull the upper and lower intake manifolds to even see the sensors.
Your supposed to remove a cylinder head to change the sensors but there's some posts on here on doing them without head removal if you poke around a bit.
