It's better for something with a mechanical adhesion, i.e. epoxy or paint, when you strip it down to bare metal.

Nope. You can do it with paint if it is simple one solid surface (like a skid plate). With many parts bolted together you can't paint it over and expect to have a seal. And you will not be able to pait it inside - this is the biggest problem.
Rusted first frame, shame an you. Rusted second frame, shame on me.

I understand, but all of what you just posted applies to $5 aerosol can products, too.

No not really. While I like my 04, this gen 3 is way superior in so many ways. I keep my 04 because I put 242k on it and it's still so much fun.

I know I was just kidding. I actually really like the 3rd gens.

Owning both would you say the comparison is almost apples to oranges?

    Edit: You know...you have the best Tacoma...a 1st gen + a 3rd gen.

I like them both, but yes definatly apples and oranges between them. I'm toying with the idea of giving the 04 to my brother. He really likes it and lately he's been using it way more then I .

Toyota has continued to make owning Tacomas fun over the years. I am sure the gen 4 will not be the exception .:)

By then the gen 2 folks will be loyal gen3 owners and be bashing the gen4 lmao.

Despite all greatness of new models I'd really like to drive my 95 when 6th gen Tacoma hits the market :)

I glanced through the 9 pages you have on your frame rust but I didn't see any pics of what products you used. What were they?

Is there a final verdict on lower ball joint mount torque? For a 4wd?

    37? 59? My Haynes says 43?

I bought a cordless impact set to 73 ft lbs and barely let it hammer on the 4 (loctited)mounting bolts. Didn't know- was in the middle of replacing an axle seal. They're 10x1.25/30mm yes? And maybe just coincidence, but there's a rattle up front now on bumps. Gonna get some new bolts and loctite, then retorque. Just got 4 Moog's delivered today. I've looked under there and stared at every cotter pin, bare thread amount exposed, everything, nothing looks amiss

A pic of the only 12.9's the local hardware store had. The Moog's came with 10.9 flanged, but these will go in next time I have to take the bolts out.

Well the trans just blew- it had been making noise for some time.

Local dealer quoted 2500 for trans and 1k for converter, I plan on towing a big trailer with this, any other recommendations from you folks? Something in 3500 price range or cheaper?

I like when that happens. You start to feel the pain of the big repair, brace yourself to spend $3500, and it turns out to be something much easier. *sigh of relief*
