I absolutely cannot believe it, but I went today and had my frame inspected at Toyota and it failed! I was not expecting it to happen at all, I was standing watching as the tech hit it with the hammer and all seemed well and then I heard him say "That's it" and he asked if it was my truck and he called me over and I saw the hole he hit into it. He said he didn't even check the other side and it had other weak points besides where he knocked the hole. I'll end up getting right around 13 grand for my old taco. That was my first truck and I absolutely love that thing, I am going to miss it like crazy! BUT...it is nice to have a new tacoma :). I ended up getting a silver 2007 4X4 reg cab base model 5 spd manual to replace it :). It only has right around 18000 miles on it, hopefully this one will be just as great as the last! Pics to come tomorrow :D

The guy told me that when they coated the frame they skipped a step and didnt coat the inside so it was rotting from the inside out, and when he did the hammer test they do to it it busted a hole in it, thus causing it to fail. But yeah it pretty much goes back to the weather, they use a LOT of road salt in my area and that caused it to start rusting and then there's no stopping it.

I lived in the Midwest for years and Alaska, I don't miss the snow and salt on the roads. That will eat a car up like cancer. Good luck with the new ride.

not sure if i should be worried about my 96. i think it was always a Southern California truck. i did however notice some rusting on the driverside frame rail under the hood near the front on top. should i have her checked out ?

Yeah it'd definitely be good just to get it checked out to be sure man. Call and schedule an appt :)

I'm not sure what all your options are, you can go to KBB.com and plug in all the details on your truck and go with the suggested retail value and then multiply that by 1.5 and thats you're ballpark range :) id say 8-9 grand somewhere in there though, no matter what the condition its in it'll be considered excellent condition!

Oh I know man, I cannot stand the salt sometimes, it paid out pretty well in this case though :). And thanks man, I'm lookin forward to lots of good times with it :D.

Got em up now bro! And yeah for real man, a great deal! Toyota really did its customers right in this case!

lol yep my yota looks teenie next to that thing!

well I LOVED my first gen, but the new one definitely is wider so there's quite a bit more space in the cab, I think the 2nd gens look even better but both are beautiful trucks, you cant go wrong either way :D

    Thanks bro me too :D

Yeah I did man, I got my toolbox and cb antennas and cb, arrow antenna, radio and a few other little things, they compensated me for my brush guard so i just left it and the lights on it. if you take yours to get it inspected leave all your stuff on it before you go cause they will compensate you for some accessories. The only things they had on list they wouldnt pay for was my toolbox and my exhaust.

Nope no worries man! You're an 01-04 model so they will do exactly that! If yours fails they will replace your frame, it'll be in the shop a few days but thats all you'll be without her :). Take it in and have it checked, plus im not sure what all you get but you get like new brake lines and stuff along with the new frame. There was one gettin worked on when i was there and they had the engine and everything sittin on the ground and the new frame sittin next to the old one, another one of the 01-04 models failed while i was there as well. And very nice lookin truck btw

Buy back is 95.5-2000 models, and then the replacement is 01-04 models. I know you're in AZ so prob no worries but have you ever had yours checked cmack?
