Remote iPod option for 3rd Gen JBL?

Hello all! Picking up my first Tacoma (2017 Off Road with premium sound) this weekend and have an entertainment question.

I've found a couple of threads that hit on the fact that the USB port on the 3rd Gen Tacoma is in a rather conspicuous spot. However, all of the folks asking about a better solution seem to have either settled for a workaround that involved switching to a USB or SD card (losing playlist capability) or just deal with the fact that your iPod is visible and hide/install regularly for use.

The last 4 vehicles that I've owned have had console USB ports that I've kept my iPod Classic constantly plugged in to. This has allowed me to keep my 15k song library organized and playlists intact. I've researched interfaces to remotely mount the iPod and found nothing for the 3rd Gens.

Anyone come up with a better option to retain the iPod in a better location?

As has been my experience with other groups like this there is a TREMENDOUS amount of info to soak up here and I've been "drinking from the firehose" as they say for weeks.

I still use my iPod too. I moved my USB to the glove box. Not the cleanest cut out but it works. Bonus was I didn't have to extend the wires. I don't have to mess with unplugging the thing when exiting the truck.

 

That is perfect! The cable that I use to connect my iPod is long enough I thought I could probably connect it behind the console and route it to the console storage but this would still facilitate more easily changing devices. Thanks!

Ive been wanting to do something like this for awhile now and have bought a couple different USB Y's to try and split the connection before the factory USB spot but the USB is a very odd size and I haven't figure it out yet other than buying another factory USB port and the aftermarket head unit USB adaptor but thats like $100 for both.

 

What aftermarket USB adaptor did you find?

Scion fog switch comes standard with amber illumination. So I gutted Tacoma rear diff sw internals to match the aqua LED.

 

The Metra harness for the factory USB port to aftermarket headunit. I don't know if it would work or not because the USB that goes into the back of the factory port is an odd size. I guess one could do a little splicing and make it work.

You beat me to it. IMO this has been the best solution yet. I already ordered the cables too.
