Why I switched to first gen to third gen, then back first gen, and back to third gen again

At least a couple more times. Maybe trucks #47,52 and 56?

 

It's possible. I should have mentioned earlier that my brother had a 2012 tacoma TRD that was lifted up pretty high. It was an automatic, though, which maybe have lended itself to why I didn't enjoy it too much. I'm just not a fan of automatic vehicles.

 

Shift points have always been a point of contention with the yotas.

He lived in Malibu California at the time and I was driving the truck through Los Angeles to get to the airport. I didn't really have the chance to get a good feel for the vehicle in stop and go traffic.

I am waaay over due for a new truck and can't decide what to get, almost fearful to buy anything new because my 1st gen has been so good to me, getting ready to roll 360'000 miles. Not sure if the new ones are as good as the old ones.

My gut says keep it simple and go with a ACLB SR i4/MT...hate automatics, but would like the extra power of the V6 for pulling a moto trailer and camping gear, only models that offer the V6/MT in a ACLB is the Sport and the Pro....the Pro is just too much money to spend on a truck, heck even the Sport is, because it is at fullsize truck territory price-wise, roughly $35K when everything is said and done. Which has me looking at F150's Super Cab short beds with the 5.0...or even a diesel Colorado, that torque and 30 mpg hwy sure would be nice.

No idea what to do....

 

The Pro Manual is only Double Cab not Access Cab.

 

Thought it was the ACLB too, I e-mailed Toyota and that is what they told me. Not that it matters, not interested it in the least.

Ideally would have a the V6/MT option in the SR, as I don't need too much fluff.

Crazy how many vehicles you guys go through, I am 45 and only had 6 personal daily use vehicles over the years, so I guess that is another factor, would like the next truck to go at least 15 years/300K miles. SR 4 banger makes the most sense out of the choices I have it narrowed down to.

 

No one can realistically speak to the long term reliability of the third gen trucks, but I have full confidence that my 2017 was built to last. I get it - everyone is skeptical of change and questions whether or not they will get a lemon but the built quality of the tacoma feels great. If you take care of your vehicle, it'll take care of you (as I'm sure you know with 360k on the clock)

In terms of pricing, I agree. These things are NOT cheap. And I don't think they will get any cheaper. This is the most expensive vehicle I've ever owned and I expect to get my money's worth!!

 

Sounds like the SR might be the perfect fit!!

 

No SR V6 Manual either that I'm aware of. They have the Manuals pretty limited now, off the top of my head only the SR AC 4 Banger, Sport AC & DCSB, OR DCSB, and Pro DCSB.

 

I know people gripe that Toyota doesn't make advances like Ford and such, but I think that is a good thing that they don't change all that much, if it isn't broken why fix it?

Do believe the V6 will be reliable as their other engines, I just don't want to pay for it. Think the SR will be fine as it will be used 90% of the time unloaded, weekends just use it to tow one dirt bike, and the couple few times a year moto/camping trip.

"Problem" is, the better half said I should just pay the extra $10K and get the V6, that bump in budget opens up a quite a few options. Gut says save the extra $10K and keep it simple with the SR.

 

Maybe I misinterpreted their response. Have absolutely no interest in the Pro, tell you the truth I didn't even look at the Pro part of the website.

Honestly with how you use your vehicles I wouldn't be too concerned over an extra 10k if that gets you what you want. As long as your finances are squared away. If you keep it for 15+ years like your last one you could buy a top of the line anything and still do better than everyone trading out every 3 years.

I understand though. I'd personally probably also squirrel the extra 10k away.

 

It is crazy how many vehicles some of these younger guys have had, I am older than you and have only had 15 total but some of those were project cars and flips.

 

Teach her to drive it. My wife loves manuals...she owned a manual when I met her...and we've been married 30 years. I just show her all the negative posts on here to try to keep her away from the truck.

 

Must get bored super quick, have a dirt bike buddy like that, think he trades in every year, just seems like a huge hassle to mess with dealers and paperwork that often.

Guess you can add 2 my list, but those were the wife's vehicles that a rarely drive. So I don't count those as my personal vehicles.

I'll pay cash, which is why I have issue with $35K even if I was approved by "the boss" Heck don't even want to pay $25K for an SR to tell you the truth, she is kinda forcing me to buy a new truck, since she doesn't trust me taking the old one into the backcountry. Much rather just sit on the money in the bank and keep on doing what I am doing (fixing the old one) $25-35K buys an awful lot of repairs. That is the real issue why I am so hesitant on buying new. Have always been some what of a cheap SOB, and it is getting worse as I age.
