Hi guys, my 2017 SR 4 cyl manual has an issue with the idle. Hopefully someone else has seen this, or maybe it's "normal". With the a/c off, and I stop at a light, clutch in, the rpm will dip to about 500 then stabilize to about 650 to 700. With a/c the rpm rises to compensate for the compressor like normal. My question is, does Toyota drop the rpm on purpose for fuel savings? Is the ecm actually doing what it should? Truck only has 500 miles on it. I'm reluctant to take it back to the dealer again, just got it back a week ago after the gauge cluster was changed out...thanks for the help

It's NOT normal to feel it as much as this truck exhibits at times, but totally normal for this truck.

    Thanks for the replies,
I traded in my 2015 2wd 4cyl which was an auto, and never noticed it. My last manual was a 97 ranger. It just feels weird having the idle drop so low..

    Thanks again

Get in a Honda Fit or one of those tiny little cars. Better yet get in a small GM vehicle lol. Ours is butter compared to those.

Perfectly normal, it's not a carbureted so it'll fluctuate.

We have better engine mounts than a Fit and those other eco cars mentioned! At least we should for that beast of a 3.5.

@Cthudak, what happened to your gauge cluster at such low mileage?

Rpm needle was ticking and occasionally sticking at 2000 rpm..took dealer 3 weeks to get the part, but it's been perfect since...

The timing is constantly changing, and with that, the RPM will change. Its normal.

Have the same idle as you're describing consistently since day one, also have had the gauge tic since day one. I have had 3 combo meters replaced in the 10k seems to only happen when it's run in the cold parked then run after it's gotten warmer. Have any issues yet after your replacement?

No issues since dealer replaced the cluster. I’ve accepted the fact the the weird idle is normal. I guess The ecm is programmed to to do this to increase the mpg. I’ve experimented around and it seems the brake booster is causing most of the issue. If I push in the clutch and put it it neutral and coast to the stop light, and brake lightly, the rpm won’t drop below 700rpm.
