Reporters and the media in general being pieces of shit is nothing new.

 

I think people are becoming more aware of it these days.

I keep a grain of salt handy whenever I'm reading the news. The doctor says my sodium intake is out of control.

 

Let me take a moment and reflect on the fortitude of these champions of civility and humanity and the hardships they endure...

Most are apparently opportunistic glory hounds that would push their own mom in front of a bus if they thought they could get the video.

 

Karma can be a Bitch alright, but she swings both ways. After this assistant professor at the University of Tampa tweeted out that Hurricane Harvey was "instant karma" for Texas voting for Donald Trump, he gets sacked.

While the guy seems to be a buffoon and an idiot to boot, he was fired for saying something. I believe in free speech and the other protections in the constitution. IMHO, there's one thing wrong with the country these days. Somebody or some group doesn't like what you say or do. They get offended and vindictive. "We don't like you; we'll get you" is what I see these days. Now I do think this guy is a nutcase, but I'll defend his right to free speech.

 

Just remember, freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences of that speech. While the 1A is intended to prevent you being thrown in jail for what you say, it does not prevent your employer from deciding they no longer wish to be associated with you.

He was perfectly free to say what he did. Univ of Tampa is a private organization and is also perfectly free to do what they did in response. Same thing with Google and James Damore. I'm perfectly free to agree with one of those firings and disagree with the other.

 

While the prof is obviously a doof, in the current hyper-sensitive ultra-snowflake instantly-outraged social media climate he would have probably gotten just as much grief if he had said he was praying for the victims.

Anyone who goes on Twitter, Facebook, etc and posts a polarizing comment like that is asking for trouble.

Some are looking for the attention and do it on purpose, others just do it without thinking and are surprised when their brilliant analysis of an issue is not interpreted the same way by others.

Freedom of Speech only means that the government cannot suppress your speech. Private entities or individuals can do whatever they want.

When I was a mod on another forum sometimes I'd ban people for posting inappropriate content. And they'd scream "But I have Freedom of Speech!" And I rightly told them "Not around here you don't."

 

But legally they are private entities.
