@Cativelense the paint you already have is perfect. Just clean it up with some acetone (or if you done have any you can use rubbing alcohol) and since it's only surface rust you can use a rust converter like Rusoleum Rust Reformer or Dupli-Color Rust fix that you can find at your local Walmart's, Lowes or Advanced Autos. Just take your time and it will come out fantastic!.

 

I would just rattle can it personally, but @mach1man001 and @vssman both have solid options listed as well

Thanks so much for the help and info peeps! I definitely have rubbing alcohol so going to use a bit of that and clean it all up. Then hit it with some of the rustoleum paint I already have a few times.

 

I guess now the next step after all of this is find bolts to use to bolt the bar onto the truck, since it didn't come with those... Only came with the bolts that attach the brackets to the bar

To be fair, I don't really pound the miles onto my vehicles. I probably drive 15-16k a year, but it's split 3 ways. So by the time I hit 50k on a vehicle it's usually 5 years old, 100k would be 10 years old, etc.

 

Make sure you get the rust off then with some sanding if you're going that route. It will bubble without primer

Been there with my armor since its all rustoleum rattle can stuff on there. Needs lots of touch ups

 

Hopefully I won't have to touch mine up as much, since it'll be "hidden" behind the grill.

 

I only really have to touch up my sliders where I/my passenger steps and the front bumper, from rock chips. But the main hoop and my sliders have some bubbling paint from me not prepping right and trying to be lazy with my painting lol

 

LOL. Not gonna lie, I HATE PAINTING. Doesn't matter what it is... rattle can, brush, whatever... HATE IT.

 

Thanks everyone for your help. I will look into doing all the fluids ASAP. My suspension definitely needs some work, that is the top of my list for bigger projects. Its really stiff these days. I appreciate all the other comments as well and I will make notes/keep everything in mind

 

WTF is that all about? You buying a bike? When I managed a ski and bike shop, 4 grand bought you a custom titanium frame, handbuilt wheels and top shelf componenets. Basically the mack daddy of mountain bikes. We almost never sold a bike over 4 grand and we were one of the highest end shops in MA. I guess that was 20 years ago though.

 

I love the actual act of painting. But that's only like 5-10% of the job, the rest is prep which I'm not a huge fan of.

Things have changed

 

I do right around 22k/year, but better than half of that is going back and forth to work now since I have a 52 mile round trip commute.

What helps is nothing is a super short trip. There is pretty much nothing that's less than a 10-12 minute drive, and most of the time I'm doing a 40 minute drive to work.

Hey @mach1man001 I passed a LKQ box truck on rt 2 this morning. That's a fairly big truck!

 

There are 100's of them in the NE area

 

Really? Jeez I didn't realize it was that big of a place! I'd never heard of it before.
