This is one of the reasons I will never live in Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico or Arizona; if I fully had my say California would be on that list too. Water is a necessity for life, how people can stray away from water and its bounty is beyond me.

Sweet. I do the same thing, but it's perfectly legal here in Maine. I'm almost surprised that the Gov't isn't encouraging it, so that we can save more groundwater to sell to Poland Spring.

I am questioning it today get his....

Our Church is getting ready to go down to Houston as it received 23 tractor trailer loads of goods from various manufactures and suppliers Kellogg,Proctor and Gamble,Kraft,Deer park water misc clothing companies etc: So I was helping out getting some logistics done and we cleaned out a storage room from or last mission trip in April. We had some left over tooth paste, tooth brushes,Mouth wash, toilet paper and other misc items with exp dates of 2020/2022. So I took a case of each since in downtown DC we have a huge homeless population and give it away to the homeless nope none of these mother fuckers would take any of it. I ended up giving it to one of the homeless outreach organisations that come around and give meals out every day....

Makes you really want to stop being helpful sometimes!

A few years ago in Maryland, you had to pay a tax on the rain that fell on your property. They have since repealed that law.

It's legal to collect rainwater in Colorado now. We have (had) archaic water since the beginning of statehood and at least now some of the more egregious aspects are being updated.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Did they actually enforce that law?

The so-called reasoning for that rain tax was for Chesapeake Bay clean-up efforts. The idea was that any rain run-off from your property ultimately flowed to the Chesapeake so you were a "contributor" to bay pollution. The bigger your property, the more you paid.

Only on commercial gardens, mostly. It was, however, illegal to design a house with built-in cisterns. I know a few people who put them under patios and plumbed them in. We are on the edge of the desert after all.

If you guys ever run short of water I guess you could always just pump it out of all of those old mines.

Maybe not, though, given some of the extraction methods they used to use...

The basic water problem is that LA and Arizona think that they own all of our water, and we shouldn't be able to deplete their supply. They do get a little testy if there's a mine spill.

Maybe in the interior part of the country it is. I'd be willing to bet that several of the northern coastal states also qualify (Maine, Washington, Oregon, etc)

    "ooh, she looks cute"
    ...walk over...
    "oh HELL no!"
