Interesting article in this months Motortrend magazine comparing Raptor, Power Wagon, and Colorado. Basically says Raptor is good for what it's designed for, Baja type terrain. But put it on a gravel washboard or muddy road and it sucks. Not sure why they evaluated the Colorado and not a Tacoma. $60K is a lot to pay for a Raptor, that gets stuck in Mud. I think even with spending money on mods you still do better buying a Tacoma, and easier to maneuver when you have to deal with city driving and parking. But just MHO.

I could see that as I think some of the desert vehicles out there have similar issues with mud. I think once you go outside of the bounds of neutrality and strive for a strong characteristic, you will likely sacrifice in another.

Is it really more about "LOOK AT ME" than functionality?

The raptor? I need to see the article to understand the specifics, but driving in des is a little different environmental wise to the standard terrain as well.

Totally agree. I could spend $60K on a factory Raptor and it would look like every other Raptor out there. I spent around $5k on mods and I have a truck that is unique to me.

Very true dilemma man, besides the grill or add on furniture like roof lights and that jazz, it is kind of hard to deviate from what everyone knows the raptor to look like.

I have heard many say that you can get this vehicle and do X, Y, Z, or just scrap all that crap and get a raptor. The raptor appeals to the guy who has the money and just wants it done in 5 min, I still wouldn't mind having one though.

Absolutely. If Ford gave me one to test drive for a couple years I wouldn't say no. Same for Dodge and a Power Wagon. Just in case there are a couple Dodge or Ford company reps out there reading this, fill free to IM me I have a nice garage it can sleep in.

Great question @ICU1 . Or observation .....I have to admit, that while I rationalize my modding by saying it's all for function. I do like watching people when they see one of my well appointed rigs. So I confess I like the form as well as the function . Looking great getting "there", and handle, whatever "there" has to offer .

Believe that especially rings true in the Jeep JKU crowd...bunches and bunches of those things running around with nary a spec of dirt on it, same for the most of the Raptors here. Don't think they go offroad at all. That and massive "sorry about your penis" jacked up to the sky diesel trucks rein king in theses parts...what few Tacomas I see running around modded or not, seem like the owners actually use them.

I prefer stealth under the radar myself, mods I have done were purely done out of function which makes it stand out a little, which I don't really care for. Next truck will try to keep stock looking as much as possible.

Though if money weren't an issue I would do a sleeper...squeeze in a 5.7 V8 for giggles, but keep stock looking on the outside.

Do like the "Brown Derby" from Total Chaos...fairly killer suspension underneath, but mostly stock looking to the general passer by.
