Definitely not impossible haha. I did know about the first wheel bearing being bad and still driving on it for a while, woops. Also they have the part on rockauto for like $90 a pop so I'll have it done before first snowfall sometime

 

I forget, I might had fee one laying around in my spare parts pile (heap). I can check tonight.

Need some thoughts. There is a 2001 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500, with just over 14k miles. It's been sitting for sale all summer, I week or so ago the wife gave the ok to check it out, think No we might be able to get a deal on it. Stopped today, bike hasn't been ridden all year, tuned up early spring and owner had a heart attack and has dizzy spells so he is not going to ride. He told me he started this summer asking $4500 but now is down to 3500, and just before I left he said he would take 3k.

Thoughts, what should I look for?

Should be a shaft-drive bike, then. Check for play in the shaft (leave it in 1st gear and rock forwards and backwards with the engine off. Some play is OK, but if it's LOTS of play or rachety noises then you should walk). Also ask for service records, if he has them. I think the valves on that bike need to be inspected/adjusted every 6-8k, if I remember right. Obvious stuff like weather cracks in the tires, deep scoring in the front rotor, cracked covers on the control cables, leaking fork seals/rear shock etc. are something to avoid or use as a negotiating tool.

 

Tire are good, I'll stop by in the next day or so, I wondering if the price is in the right neighborhood, did a little online research and depending where I look I get a different thought. One place makes me feel it's over priced, while looking at what a local dealer has for used makes me think it's a good deal.

 

$3k seems to be about right; most of the Jap cruisers around here depreciate to around $3500 by 10k miles and then they just kind of hang out there for a few years and another 10-15k or so. I usually don't use KBB or NADA as a pricing guide; I prefer to look at similar bikes on Craigslist and see what they're going for.

Edit- As an example, I bought my Suzuki Boulevard for $3700, rode it for 3-4 years and around 10-12K miles, then sold it for $3500.
