I am about 10 days past separating my right shoulder, and driving sucks one handed for sure. I tossed the arm sling after day 7, but I still reach across to put the truck in drive, adjust the air, or ect pwr etc. Pretty much prop my arm on the console for the whole drive. My last 3-4 years of driving were a WRX with a 5 speed, so at least I can still drive myself.

My Santa Cruz Chameleon is done and pretty rad. The purple raceface chester pedals really let the whole bike look down, so I left it at the shop while waiting on something anodized since I have now the time to spare. So now other people get to stare at it and enjoys it since I can't. But hey, no shoulder surgery and maybe back to riding in 6-8 weeks if all goes well.

I've been looking HARD at the Chameleon after I caught the hardtail bug. @Maximus Gradient's explosif didn't help the situation. Just can't drop the $$$ on a 3rd bike for the setup I want.

I have some purple deity bladerunners that I think would match the sticker color perfectly. I think it is the same gradient as my bronson.

The number of bikes you need is N+1. I literally spied these tires in a LBS back in April, and decided to order and build a whole bike around them. Current stable is only 3 bikes, with frames and enough parts to have 5. I ordered another frame for a build over the winter to cover what this bike can't do, and the used market near me is flooded with fat bikes, so I am keeping my eyes on that used option.

I am going raceface on the pedals, likely atlas. On my previous customs, now including this one, I like to OCD match up manufacturers and parts, get the bike setup proper before I ride it and change things. I waited so long that the Chameleon was a 2018 and came with a Raceface dropper seatpost, but I still put in a Fox Transfer post because it has a Fox front fork etc. I probably went overboard a bit on this bike because I kept upgrading or changing things before the bike even arrived, but that is what happens when Santa Cruz made me wait 4-5 months for a bike.

I was riding again 6 weeks after breaking my collarbone and I probably heal slow 'cause I'm 60. The worst part was actually the rest of my body getting out of shape. FWIW my wife is a PT and she was pretty strict about me wearing the sling for 2 weeks, then do the rehab by the book, especially range of motion.

Glad to see someone has this mount setup... Made my own custom mounts at work for my Transition TA 29er on my X-runner that got T-boned last week so I'm in the market for a new Taco... glad to see that i wont be able to really use my mounts if the bike only fits in at an angle..

Here you go. BTW, the bed rail uses the factory holes and bolts (T30)

Hope you're alright, no one likes a broken Taco, but broken people are worse!

I have to provide a slight clarification for you:
I'm 6'3 and run an XL frame Specialized Fuse 6Fattie.
My fork mount also sticks out a good 3.5-4". The thru-axle is at the very front of my fork. All of this combined pushes the bike back towards the tailgate.
I've set the bike in the bed with the front fork pressed against the front wall, and the rear tire only has to be moved over only about 3".
Smaller framed bikes do fit in short bed trucks, some tighter than others...

My "road" bike uses a standard fork mount that only protrudes 1.5" from the bed rail, and then the opening in the fork is basically center, which pulls the bike forward slightly compared to the 6fattie.

This bike fit in my 2nd gen TRD OR (short bed),but I'm yet to try it in the 3rd gen SB.

I just ordered the KB Voodoo bed rail (for factory tonneau covers) because I plan on keeping the tonneau on most of the time, so I'll keep the bike on top of the bed as opposed to in it. I'll be mounting the fork mount straight down to keep the overall height to a minimum.

Just leave the tailgate down when the bike is in the bed

Somehow misplaced the few pics I took of my Titus Motolite but in some sober and better illuminated moment I'll snap a few more. I built it up after a run down the Downieville downhill got me hooked on FS. It's many years removed now from new high end components but I chose and installed every gram on it. Here's a build list of what is on it

    Ergon grips
    Grip shift 3x9
Paul Love cable Levers/BB7 brakes, Avid CS 185F/160R discs, I-link cables
Edge Carbon fiber bars and seat post
    Ritchey 4-axis stem
    Cane Creek head set
    Fox Talas 32 RLC 140/120/100
    Wtb LaserV Ti saddle
    Amoeba seat post qr
    Pushed Fox Float RP23
Truvativ Noir GXP 22/32 w/ BBG CF bash ring, Crank Bros TI pedals w/HD Ti spindles
    Enduron XD-15 BB
    Shimano XTR fd
    SRAM XO rd
    Shimano XTR Ti 11/32 fh
Gorilla tubeless WTB Laserdisc Trail rims with wolverine race 2.2f/ Kenda small block 8 2.1r
Every bolt including QR's is Ti.
DIY quad led bar light frame mounted cells w/thumb switch
DIY triple led helmet light pack mounted cells w/shoulder strap switch
    Dakine Nomad hydration

My taco has a ways to go to catch up on mods.

I'd honestly be down for that.

Did some quick google math. Missoula to SLC is 8hrs, and SLC to Tahoe is 8 hrs. Wanna carpool?

The N+1 Struggle is real! I'm gonna scoop up a HT before too long, just gotta find one for a decent price. This whole bike thing is killing my house savings plan...

My size Large 29-er (Santa Cruz Tallboy) fits in the DCSB bed straight, tailgate up, with fork mounts similar to yours, mounted on a board on the floor at the front of the bed.

I live within an hour of something like 1000 miles of singletrack...Pretty sure we could find something...Tear up all the park city trails, then hit a park laps day at Canyons and Deer Valley.

and when the snow gets here, its only 4 hours to Moab, Grand Junction, and Hurricane. A few friends and I rode SLC, Grand Junction, Durango AND MOAB all in a 3 day weekend before.

It was! But riding Durango and Moab with a few cracked ribs and 8 stitches in my leg (Crashed hard in GJ on Ribbon) was less than amusing.
