no cutting yet. Waiting till I get the rims and tires, plus the gears installed. Knowing me, ill have the tires 'fitting' and ill just run them out of excitement. My drivetrain is hurting already with the armour and current tires. I saw the gears, but my original plan was to go ECGS on hear but ended up going with a local shop out of expense. Was cheaper to get my thirds built than have them shipped out and what not. Missed the Kijiji deal, was able to get some LCA skids from the guy though. Was a member on here. Ill see if I can find his build. lol

Edit: the build that pretty much ruined my bank account lol

Lol yeah pretty excited and nervous. Kind of big mods that you can't easily go back on. Hoping to be done by January. See how she goes. Rims are the first step, gears in the fall, and hopefully swing tires afterwards. Shit adds up that's for sure.

Tires im not to sure about. 4wheel parts has the ko2's for $275 a tire which is pretty good. Going with the 315/70/17. May check out the cooper st/max. Been pretty happy with mine in a 255/75/16. S

Sure does add up, and i'm minus 1 front differential to change up, compared to you. Which, i guess is a good thing, because i couldn't afford to routinely fix stuff that'd get tore up on a 4x4... this admittedly is the first 4-wheeled vehicle i've majorly screwed around with, in 30+ years of driving.

In the past few months, i've been squirreling away parts to do much the same work as you, to my humble 5-lug. I'm doing the final bit of work in two stages. The first stage was getting a 2014 SR5 4.10 geared 3rd Member shipped in from the east coast, and ordered in a Detroit LSD. It's sitting on a bench awaiting the "Differential Guy", who is on vacation at the moment. Stage 2 will coincide with needed tire replacement in late August/early September - bumping up to 235/85R16 pizza cutters, and putting in the 4.10 3rd member. I'm taking a gamble on Pro-comp A/T Sports. I don't need to go off-road, but it would be nice to get through the occasional snow-drift with the LSD and a mildly aggressive tread pattern..

I've owned the truck for 6.5 years... my intention is to push out ownership of the truck for 15 years .. all upgrades done, given present and potential future needs .. i don't ever see the future need for a proper 4x4.

It's expensive living relatively close to a 4wheelparts location.. i need to go back to motorcycles after i'm done this final round of changes to the Tacoma.... they are far cheaper to mess with!

Thanks for the heads up on the tires. I would never run a mud terrain again since I run the same tire all year long. Muds in the winter are not so great. So all terrain are the only way to go. I only went with the f5's since they had the specs I needed. I really didn't want to run spacers and these were one of the only options I had unless I went with steelies in a 16" rim. However thinking I may need a big brake Kit down the road so 17's were the only way to go. Just planning long term I guess.

Oh so you know exactly what I am going through. Nothing wrong with what you are doing. Im sure your gas mileage is much better than what I am getting. Plus there are so much more spare parts for your truck on kijiji than I can find. Keep your eye out for the winter runs if you want to do some snow bashing. good clean fun!

In the past, Kijiji has provided some parts - a 1-piece OEM Tonneau at first, then a Tri-fold replacement. I also found a bed divider, to keep the spare restrained in the bed, also obtained from the Tri-fold seller. I also got my present wheel/tires off of kijiji .. seller was literally around the corner. I can recycle the wheels for the new tire setup.

That was just through casual opportunistic kijiji shopping - I could have saved so much more money, given time to find, and patience. I am not good at managing the former, and patience is not a trait that i have. I actually try to avoid kijiji .. this truck is not the only preoccupation with farkling, that i have... kijiji with diverse interests, and weak will-power is definitely not a good combo.

I'll keep my eye on the M&G thread.. so far my truck has been in a state of 'tore apart' every time that a good weekend comes up, or it turns into an off-road thing.. a little snow on the other hand, is a recipe for fun.

I have gotten a lot of kijiji including my current wheels, cap, and a few other odds and ends. I'm waiting to find a totalled double cab long bed. Want to get some spare parts.

Look forward to some more people out to the runs.

    Hey Peter,
I see you are preparing for 35's. Besides the rims, tires, gears, lockers and cutting, are you lifting the truck further as well?

If be interested to know because after Camp NL, I'm kinda getting the itch (uh oh). Some of the quality of the 6" Tacoma lifts I see on line look pretty cheesy. What are the options you know of?

I'm not going to be lifting more than the 3 inch lift that I have. The drop brackets you see online are a pain and don't help with clearance under the truck.

What ever 3 inch lift you get you will have to clearance if you want the proper articulation for tires unless you do a body lift. Which you will still have to do a bit of trimming.

You could do long travel but some of those trucks are lower than 3 inch lifts. Means more clearancing.

How was camp nl? Been wanting to go for a while.

Thanks for the insight. I'll need to save some money and convince the wife if I decide to step up to 35's.

CampNL was awesome. The trails were very wet though. Luckily I had ordered and installed my snorkel before the event. Good thing because it was used on more than one trail. You can see the water mark on the side of the truck in the pic I attached.

You should definately come next year. I was the only Tacoma there in a sea of Jeeps. The was one FJ, one Nissan and a ranger.

    Great bunch of people though.

Nice I'll have to sign up earlier next year. I was a bit late and missed out. Yeah the snorkels are a good piece of mind when stuffs wet. That's been all the trails this year. Terribly wet.

Hopefully I'll have my 35's on next year. Need to wait for Arb to have the free compressor when you buy two lockers.
