Noticed a few drops on the driveway and seems to be coming from the transmission and/or transfer case.

    Off to Toyota we go...:bananadead:IMG_0062_zpseoa5zrbx_42dc6da77e3f8ecf371f76636cb298f1bfe2e329.jpg IMG_0060_zpspfmnegt1_fa9cd0cc3a9c52eeddd98156a5f4847aa75fca2a.jpg IMG_0061_zpsinqeern6_4c2b471877eed278db42db3c8ccb5f28a7fa770f.jpg

Any recent maintenance? My dealership didn't replace some seal with a new one when I had them check all the fluid levels and it ended up leaking because of it.

I had a schedule one service done 7000 kms ago, which as we all know is basically nothing. Only reason I had it done is because they also installed new leaf springs (old ones squeaked).

Ive had drops on the driveway since getting it oil sprayed last November, so who knows how long it's been leaking. That being said it's been in for at least 4 services since then, and also for the rear diff recall!

So if it's been going on for a while (really no way for me to know, I didn't notice it unfortunately I was focusing on the back end of the truck leaking lol), then that is nuts.

I asked to have the ATF checked before I even took ownership due to this board, but I'm certain they didn't check it so I asked again at the first service. Pretty sure they once again didn't just did the ECU flash.....I guess I may finally get my ATF fluid level checked? :ohsnap:

Is it the transmission or the transfer case that seems to be the cause of the leak. Pictures kind of look to be of the transfer case, if it's the transfer case I do believe a few people have reported leaks in the last month or so.

Quite unfortunate, I came to Toyota expecting nothing but quality. My 2015 WRX was impeccable in comparison, but then again it did come straight from Japan....

Good eye, it could also be the culprit both are oily. Really the first 1/3 of the truck is dripping at this point. I'm here now we'll see what the culprit is

I was thinking the same thing too, remembering several Threads about leaking transfer cases.

Verdict is in, leaking transfer case.

Ordering in parts to reseal it.

Question for the technically savvy, should I be worried about any damage/excess wear and tear in the transfer case?

Doubtful enough fluid leaked out to cause any issue, even less of a worry if you didn't use 4x4 when "low" on fluid.

What I'm curious about is what fluid they fill your transfer case with, whether or not they use the super expensive Toyota fluid or standard drum gear oil.

Well that sucks. Hopefully they get it fixed right the first time. Quality has certainly been lacking on this generation.

Have a feeling the dealer will just pump in some old 75w-90 in there and send him on his way, instead of that special stuff that is like $60 a Quart.

Toyota has the capacity it 1.1 Quarts too so you end up needing to buy 2.

Since when did Toyota care about filling the fluids on these?
