    Better quality and since it is made from metal it will not warp as easily which may happen with the original plastic one or just degrade over time..

    Can't see that happening over 6000 miles, if following recommended replacement.
    Maybe for this reason.

    For under 20 bucks it's worth having as a spare , the stock plastic ones are cheap very easy to break and crack .. esp on first oil change toyota has them on super tight from factory

    Usually they are priced around $25, two weeks ago Amazon had Toyota 0w-20 synthetic for $4.60 a qt, now it’s up to $10. Prices on Amazon commonly fluctuate, sometimes to the consumer’s advantage. Could be a mistake...or?

    Last December they had Shimano Sedona spinning reels for $15 (Amazon was seller), they commonly go for $65+, bought 6 and gave a few away as Xmas gifts. Not saying this item is a glitch, but it happens.

    As for my new cartridge, I’m saving it until my toyo care is expired. Changing my oil @ 2500 this weekend and will snap some shots side by side. There’s already pics out there, I’ll just do it for SAG.

    Anything is dangerous in the wrong hands, could misuse cause damage....yes.

    Why did toyota create a composite cartridge? Cost reduction? Reduce potential for damage by lazy techs changing oil? Overtightening, cross threading etc? Global warming? Who knows?

    It must be ancient aliens.

    Ok so I'll play the downer in this. Yes it's factory. And if you look at the description it says available June 14 2012. Now being a tech and former Toyota tech. If something was to go wrong say engine related to this and it could be Anything. Toyota can deny your warranty. Because the date available and what's on the vehicle can be just a hair off. Now it's been awhile since I worked for Toyota and that might of changed. But if you still have warranty I'd wait.

    I almost went aluminum... but:

    Aluminum has a higher chance of cross threading the threads on the truck. Which is a pain in the ass to fix.

    The plastic has a better chance of cross threading the threads on the plastic housing. Which is easy to fix.

    Jump on this! As a Tundra owner, we had to deal with the same bull shit! Get rid of the factory, plastic version and replace it with this metal version.

    If you do your own oil changes, this is worth it. If you have someone else do your oil changes, inspect the condition of the plastic housing before it is reinstalled. It is easy to break the gripping lugs on the outside of the housing.

    All I can say is it’ll be on my truck..........only after I plastidip it and add trd red vinyl letters to the raised toyota. I think I was supposed to say derp?

    This piece is not supposed to be replaced at each oil change. In fact I don't believe the manual says anything about replacing it ever.

    I am with @dYL0n though. I have one of these but haven't put it on yet. I probably will because I'll be the one putting it on and taking it off but I would not recommend one of these if you are taking it to shops to get the oil changed. If/when they fuck up it's going to be more of a pain for no gain.

    The advantage of this in my opinion is it doesn't wear down. Anyone who has changed the oil on an old Toyota with this piece knows what I'm talking about. If someone mangles one up they can be hard to get off and they are very easy to mangle being plastic.

    Hard to believe members prefer keeping the plastic one to hold that precious oil in the engine. One warp, crack, or misthread, and kiss your expensive engine goodbye.

    Reminds me of that Futomo oil drain valve.
