Im posting to get an idea of peoples experiences with the 4 Wheel Parts shops in their areas. I got my lift done at my local 4wp, and the salesmen were slimy in my opinion. Ive had my truck in two times for warranty work, one terrible experience, one good experience.
Would go with a local shop if I could turn back the clock.
Just want to see what the TW community has to say

I had no issues with them when they did some work on my truck.

What is the cost, likelihood(probability) and consequence of a bad experience there? That's how I weigh the option. It's a big fat NO for me.

When they installed my FJ's ARB front bumper, they installed it in a way that it started rubbing against my AC line. Over time the rubbing caused a leak and I was left with no AC two months after installation.

I returned to them and showed them the situation and they were pretty good about getting whole new AC line and fixing the problem.

I only get parts from them, I prefer to install myself. I also get dealer pricing, so if all you need is parts, I can usually get a pretty good price.

They have outrageously high prices on lift installs, I know that much. The one out here wanted over $800 just to install my 5100s and AALs. Found a local alignment shop that did it instead for $250.

my experience there was half ok and half poor. i got the parts from them at a great price. the install was done right (Hellwig rear sway bar & Sumosprings), but dealing with half the guys at the front desk is like pulling teeth. they are all No Fear Bros and have no patience for people in Tacomas and that was clear. i would still buy parts through their online side and pickup at the store. their local distribution house has a store front not too far from me. I'll deal with the store as little as possible. i didn't have problems but I'd think their shop quality control may be inconsistent.

They did some work for me in the late 90's. Didn't have any issues with the work, but they weren't cheap. It's a gamble. They've been around forever, whatever that's worth. I don't think I'd say they're bottom of the barrel.

I am going through total shit show with them right now. Long story short, I bought a set of ties at the end of January from them- good price, free ship, no tax, and a $50 gift card. Saved them the trouble and picked them up at my local 4wp. Never got the gift card they said they sent, giving me the run around wasting my time. At this point it's not really about the card & more the principle of their shitty customer service. I have ordered other small parts on line and picked up with no problem but like said above if you walk in and try to get help its like pulling teeth. I will give my dollars to other shops that actually want my business and will work hard to keep it.

They did the same thing to me with the gift card. After two months I called and was given the run around. Then I called asked it be sent with a tracking so they (and I) knew it got to me. So I called every day for almost two weeks and asked for the same person until they gave me my tracking number. But like you it was more about the principle. Don't offer something you don't intend on following through with.

I disagree. I dont mean to defend 4WP, but I think it's a mischaracterization to paint them as a place for noobs and beginners. They sell many of the same products as other, more favorable places, often times for less, so how does that reduce them to noob buyer status only? You haven't made much of a case here.

4WP is the Wal-Mart of the 4x4 world. They have just about everything but the sales associates are usually hopelessly inept and good luck sorting the garbage from the gems without doing your own learning like @Manwithoutaplan said. I'm perfectly happy to buy common big name items there like a bubba rope, rigid led light, or a factor 55 flat link but I wouldn't risk getting anything large or installed from them, nor anything like suspension. I know too many friends that went home with the wrong parts multiple times.

Also when you do buy something like a factor 55 flat link or piece of quality suspension (IE Fox) they are a drop shipper, meaning they keep zero inventory on hand, so you end up waiting months for your part. Luckily when I ordered my flat link from them I was gone for a couple of weeks anyways so even though it took 6 weeks to show up I had time to wait.

No issues with them at all. Good experience throughout and ive spent a fair amount there. Had my truetrac installed there and from all the different color markings on every single bolt, it appears they paid attention to the details to make sure all is good to go.

One shop local quoted me 1k for the truetrac and install, 4wp quoted 1100. I notice the local (still very popular yota offroad shop in the area that im still a customer of) quote was half diff, half labor. The 4wp was half diff, 200 master install kit and gear oil, then labor. Even though it was more, it was a better deal to me. Yeah that seems like a lot esp for people who install them in their driveway but this was a 3 hour turn around while i was at work and one of the guys drove me to work from their shop and picked me up when it was ready a few hours later.

Interesting. I wonder if thats the same no matter the location. Im just 15 miles from their local region warehouse and ive always been able to just pick up parts there same day or next day.

Here's the email, so I'm going to say it's like that for all 4wheelparts.
