Thank you for taking time to let us know how you're doing. You've been a personal touch point for those of us that are watching from a distance. For me, your experiences have brought home just how much tragedy and damage have occurred.

All of us that can help must remember to aim for the long term. Once the media coverage has passed, and Harvey is off the radar, Texans are still going to need assistance. It's going to be a long time before Houston, Beaumont, etc. and their residents can get to "normal".

Since my yard is saturated I have been getting a bunch of these guys in the house.

I knew better, but decided to smack this one right in front of my wife. She ran away screaming as about 100 baby spiders burst of their moms back.

We've been getting tons of those inside the house. Also have killed or relocated 6 snakes. All water moccassins or copperheads.

I've been told that several people are following my experience and so I've really tried to be as honest about it all as possible and try to give a clear picture of what is happening.

This is definitely a marathon not a sprint type of situation. Some of the people most impacted just finished rebuilding their homes from flooding 6 months or a year ago. Right now everyone sees us on the news and they see how terrible it is and they want to help but the volunteers and assistance will eventually recede just like the water.

I live in Dickinson which was one of the worst areas impacted and I never thought I would see my little town's name on the national news. It's great that it's there to get attention for those here who desperately need the assistance but the thing is when the coverage stops we will STILL be rebuilding and STILL need help.

As I drove out of my neighborhood today I was literally moved to tears by what I saw. My neighbors were returning in force with friends and family in tow. Pulling carpet, sheetrock, furniture, food etc out of their homes and piling it up at the curb. Taking photos of the things they had lost and getting ready for the battles to come with the insurance companies. Yet all around I saw smiles and laughter as people who had lost so much were taking the steps to get their lives back on track and helping each other. Those people are the ones who will be the real support and who will be the driving force behind making sure we recover. Once the media has packed up and left or moved on to the next big thing our neighbors will remain. This shared experience will draw us closer and make us a force to be reckoned with.

I am so glad that I was able to see that today and see something positive so close to home. I NEEDED that because I was just emotionally bankrupt it seemed. I felt like I had nothing left to give of myself after so many days of faking calm and optimism to try and make sure friends/family/and even those seeking shelter in my own home were able to draw strength from me and focus on survival. The response from other states and cities has been absolutely amazing but even with all that positivity I can tell you it's hard to be a glass half full optimist when you're worried you might become a house half full of water homeowner.

Overall we have survived and are very lucky. I am beyond thankful that I am able to lay in my OWN bed right now writing this listening to my bulldogs snore like any other normal night in the past year. I have found my normal again regardless of what we have been through and I only pray that everyone else impacted finds theirs soon as well.

Couldn't sleep all night. Dylan's alarm goes off in about an hour and a half so I imagine I will fall asleep in about an hour and 15 minutes.
