most often if I see a snake, I'm too scared to get close to it so I will spray it with a water hose or something and just get it to go away.

so..if I can tell the eyes on a snake...it's either dead (the only reason I'll get close), or in a zoo.

That would be nice wouldn't it. I've heard stories of cottonmouths chasing jon boats. They are like the wasp of the water apparently. Just mean as hell.

    Only the best.
Yes. Took paint off and grounded it this morning. On the bottom meter (which is swr) it was 8 last night and 5.5 now. So my quick ground worked a little. I did scrap the paint off. I feel like im doing somthing wrong still. Im just gunna leave it till monday and hopefully @JBTacoma will have a little advice for me. I really dont want to spend to much time and money as this setup is only temporary.

I canoe and fish down the Flint and Paint Rock rivers quite often and this couldn't be closer to the truth! We see at least 15-20 snakes each trip and unfortunately about 10-12 of them are cottonmouths! Water bandits aka the other water snake that isn't venomous are actually very docile and somewhat friendly. We use to not take any type of defense with us when we first started going and would just use our paddles. Then once we noticed the abundance of snakes we started with machetes. Over the past few years its gotten to the point where we take either a .22 pistol or a .410 snake charmer. I cant tell you how many times we would try to avoid cottonmouths by splashing them off a log or something just to get them out of the way and they make a bee line straight for us and we have to stun them with our paddle just to shoot them. They are relentless too. We had one follow us over 100 yards down river, swimming dead nuts in the middle of the river, til we got to one of our stops and basically sat there waiting on it to get to us to kill it.

So I have a possible crazy thought....it has been tearing at me sometime watching others go help. Would anybody be interested in going to help in Texas? We have a long weekend ahead of us...and I can hopefully leave out tomorrow....

Would love to be able to go out there and help, financially I am not at a point where I can assist anymore than with prayer.

I would hope it wouldn't be a financial burden other than your own expenses for the weekend like gas and food. If I can't logistically come up with a good plan, or find at least one other willing vehicle to go I won't. It just bothers me to be completely capable of helping, and I'm not.

Oh I agree. One of my best friends from childhood lives there and they are stuck in a neighbors house upstairs. Also have a dog and a 6 month old and the wife is a doctor at Baylor. The videos and pictures he has sent me from his neighborhood are just heart breaking. Their house has 3 feet of water on the first floor and both cars are obviously total losses.

No doubt watching animal rescues, especially pets(even more so with dogs) get to me more than anything. Unfortunately, there are some people that feel or believe that pets are replaceable. I'm sorry but my dog is my son to me. If he cant get out or be saved then neither can I.

Its a Church of Christ Disaster Relief Group I've been with before, they are actually going to Rockport, not Houston, where there is no flooding just to do cleanup and whatever else they can help with.

haha they won't care. if you're helping, you're helping. if we go through them it's free "housing" at a church down there, with meals provided.
