What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

The pics don't really show the knicks, maybe I'm just being overly ocd about it, I'm honestly more concerned about the powder coating. and this right here feels like a gap where the lip of the tube sticks out almost, the other arm isn't like that. Not trying to bash James or The truck shop/built right but what really got me obsessing over every detail was their response to my email about the powder coating was to just use touch up paint and blamed ups for it.

 

Anyone know where I can buy a diff breather? No auto parts stores have them and I'm having trouble finding one online too.

 

It looks like the weld got a little hot in your last pic, I would imagine they're going pretty fast if these are production pieces and it's easy to get too hot when TIG welding quickly. Better too hot than too cold anyway.
As for the PC, I have yet to see a high quality powder coating job from one of these small scale off-road fabrication shops. It's time intensive to properly prep small pieces like UCAs, they would probably need to charge a lot more and run them in larger batches.

Looks like a bit of undercut from going hot on the weld. Pretty typical should still be strong, the rest of the PC area wasn't going to stay clean anyway unless you planned on using the truck as a lawn ornament.

 

Added Rago fab light brackets & installed two rigid flood lights. I'm impressed with the lights, however more light wouldn't be bad. Since install, on my route home from work (currently working nights) I've spotted a deer in the ditch each night. Makes me think they have already paid off.

Doesnt look to bad, I wouldnt call that undercut cause it doesnt dig into the tubing. More or less just a little error on the cope fitiment. They look good to run, and the powder coat is going to get dirty and chipped off road anyways right.

My black and white thinking, if I dont care for a certain finish product, I just build it my self. Then you have to consider cost of time, materials, tools, and knowledge. To each there own on that though.

Im sure the truck will look and perform awesome.

 

Spent yesterday evening replacing ball joints. This morning was replacing all the other suprises.


Good thing I did though, replaced inner and outers. The ball joints had water in them and lots of play, they were not grinding yet though. The passenger side Lbj nut was tourqed to 60ft lbs and the 14mms were about 12ft lbs. It all fell apart when i started dissasembly. My truck was inspected 6mo ago by a local toy dealer. Need less to say, dodged a bullet on that one.

 

For those who have spc UCA's and have hit your fender with the zerk or more give spc a call. I just called and talked with Mark and apparently it's the first they have heard about it. He started a claim and was going to send it to the engineers. I remember seeing somewhere that someone else had this issue as well. Personally I'm not worried about it just thought that they should know. Only issue I see it causing is a broken zerk. I'll probably take the truck to them next time I'm in Denver so they can take a look.

 

Cool thanks for the reassurance, these are my first big purchase for my suspension and I just got carried away looking for issues that aren't actually issues at all. It definitely won't be a lawn ornament!

 

One is the nipple for the diff and the other is the actual breather with a nipple, unless you already have a nipple for the top of the diff

lol just went to get my truck inspected too, failed emissions

 

State safety inspection.

I need flares, mud flaps and to fix my ebrake.

And they'll probably get me for my studded tires when I go back in.

I think this is the last year they're doing it in Utah.

 

I've never hit mine and have bottomed out the bump stop a few times. Are you guys running any kind of top plate spacer? Just curious if what the difference could be.

 

I don't need any of that either, my ebrake is broken and they didn't say anything last year, Utah is more strict than I'd expect
