Try it and let us know... Mine works for many weeks before failing (unless a passenger's foot bumps it)... So, I am not really inspired to buy special grease. I did spray WD-40 on it once... my dad loved that stuff ever since it was created here in San Diego, back in the 50s or so!

Nice to hear another member with minimal issues. I too have owned several Tacomas and I'm very happy with my 2nd Gen. I sold my 2017 for my 2014. All I can say is, don't let your 2nd Gen go.

I recently performed the Spark Knock TSB as I was experiencing noticeable knock going uphill, low rpm. Toyota took care of it under the powertrain warranty. The knocking went away thankfully. Do you experience the knocking?

I also had a spacer lift on my 2006 Tacoma when I had it. It worked fine and did a lot of off-roading with it. It wasn't the greatest, but it worked for me. I plan to go with a coilover lift, new leaf packs, and UCA's with this truck.

I'm sure your next 40K miles will be met with minimal issues.

Never heard of that TSB... so my dealer definitely hasn't lol!
I have no pre-ignition with my truck on either bad California gasoline or much better (no ethanol added) Mexican Pemex gasoline. Always use 87 octane, except when I was doing mileage experiments.
I think my 2010 is my last 'new' vehicle. I hardly drove it for the first 6 years and only recently began to add a lot of Baja miles on it. Almost at 108,000 now and nearly 8 years old.
I solved the weak suspension with Ride Rite Air Bags in the back and Bilstein 5100s all around. I only did that a couple years ago. The 2010 rear springs were much better than my 2005 springs, even though they both were just the 2+1 leaf set up. My 2005 bottomed-out over any bump when I had people or cargo in the back. The 2010 did not, but the shocks were worn and leaking finally, so the upgrade.

Good to hear Toyota took car of your knock problem. As far as I know I have never had a problem with any knock and I do use regular gas.

Sold a 3rd Gen to buy a 2nd Gen... Interesting. Have you seen my Thread on what have you Traded or Sold to get your current Tacoma? All Gens.
If not I'll put a link below. Might be interesting to see what the 3rd Gens guys might comment on.

I don't think you have to worry about the knocking in your 2010. The TSB only applied to 2012 to 2014 Tacomas. I some 2015's have them, but can't get rid of it.

I make a post and see what kind of attention that draws, haha. Loved everything about the truck except how it drove in my daily commute. The 2nd Gen may have less power, but it has the power where it needs it, in the lower RPM's. I'd have to rev the 3rd Gen to almost 4K just to get to the power. I hear they fixed much of the shifting issues, at the expense of touching the software and potentially voiding warranty, if the dealer finds out. If I still had the 3rd Gen, I probably would have gone that route.

OK, so what do you want to talk about next?
Did you know southern Baja is being hit by a major hurricane right now?
The Houston one is obviously a bigger deal.
Big floods around La Paz have washed out the highway and homes are gone.

Nope didn't know about Baja. I know that what is happening in Texas and Louisiana is such as shame. I feel so sorry for those people and what they are going through,

You think the engine just broke in? Or the engines just breaking in?

I'll probably continue with some more of how the interior is holding up. Then maybe switch to paint and body.

After the driver's seat on most vehicles. I find the driver side door panel take a lot of abuse. Mine still looks pretty good.

As far as the outside goes. It still looks basically brand new except for a few rock chips on the front.

I have the exact same unit, installed by previous owner, in my '13 Sport I bought in '14. It died a few months ago :( I have to spend $35 plus shipping just to get the unit looked at, possibly $95+ for repair. I guess it is worth is, since GPS units are nearly $1k as it is.

FWIW, I'm nearly at the 70k mark on my Taco, 50k is from my daily plus cross-country trips to visit the old folks. Only real problem was the battery died in March this year. Got the standard squeaky leaf springs, but otherwise she's perfect!

My head units been fairly solid so far. It did want to freeze up about once a month when I first got it. Got a free software update from Kenwood and loaded it through the USB port. It may have froze one time since, in the past 4 years.

Batteries are going to go mine did about year 4 as I'm sure you already read.

Good to hear of another solid reliable Taco with a satisfied owner.
