Self etching is what I would recommend from those I think. Don't know about primer sealer

 

Was thinking the same after writing that and got me a can of it.

They told me the bamf should be done tomorrow morning, so I might be putting it on tomorrow. Have to get the bolts I need to attach it to the truck first.

 

If they didn't specify, go grade 8.

EDIT: Are you talking about the primer, or the sandblasting?!

EDIT: Like the strength of the bolt. So grade 8 is almost the strongest level

no worries! yeah I could see how you got mixed up since mainly were talking about coating and said you need to find some bolts.

Grade 8s are harder and stronger then Grade 5, and also have a gold/yellow color to them since they have a different coating compared to the grad 5 zinc coated bolts. The Grade 8s are a hair more corrosion resistant but not entirely.

Since its just a light bar going in you can get away with Stainless Steel hardware. This will keep the corrosion at bay, and they are actually fairly strong to. Worst case is just paint over the bolts if you cant get SS ones.

 

I think its a HD thing, revving them unnecessarily.

 

Was actually thinking about that, painting the bolts after I put it all on, especially since my radiator is already painted black so the bolts would stick out way too much.

 

yeah not that bad idea. Do recommend using Ny-Lock nuts for all of this. Radiator support does get a lot of vibrations so will help keep everything from loosening up. And couple drops of blue loctight will help to

 

If I use locktite, it'll basically make it never come off, right?! Not sure if I want to do that route, just in case.

 

Yeah, I was recommending Grade 8 bolts for the corrosion resistance, not for the strength, in this case. SS works too (obviously they're corrosion resistant, lol) but is expensive

 

Na blue is medium strength which can be broken with hand tools. There's also 2 variants of red. You can also get lock washers, I use them on my light bar with flat washers and rubber washers without issue

 

Red yes, blue no. Blue you can break with a breaker bar or just little more ass on the wrench. Red you need heat typically to get it to break loose. You can also get weaker Blue as well. I usually will do a ny-lock and a lock washer if I don't have any blue lock tight. Slightly overkill but sometimes rather not worry bout it

 

Well... I think the bolts for the drop down brackets have nylock nuts already. The bolts that are going to bolt the bamf bar to the truck don't take nuts, I don't think, so I don't think I need/can use nylock nuts there.

Cool. Going to try and get lockwashers then instead of regular washers for those bolts then.

 

you'll still need a flat washer. So order is flat washer, lock washer, bolt.

You want the flat washer to be touching what ever you are bolting to, then the lock washer, and then the bolt
