So the retinal specialist found a split in my retina, right eye only. Awesome!
He informed me the retina is about to detach and not to worry about it, but be prepared for emergency surgery when it does happen.

 

That sounds like a horror film

 

They keep reassuring me that it can all be fixed and not to be worried.
I literally felt like I was being tortured today, they had me held down and eyelids pulled back and some nuclear bright fucking light in my eyes to see what's up.
I guess it's painless when it detaches, so there is that.

 

I compressed a disk in my lower back last night, fuck yea!

right before I was supposed to go backpacking all weekend...

 

When I had that cataract procedure at the beginning of the year it wasn't too bad I was so stressed because well....it's your eyes... The cloudiness in my vision is gone but now I have a weird halo effect when I first wake up in the am and look at light (like an alarm clock) it goes away fairly quickly...

Supposedly the cataract surgery is quick, 10 minutes. and the recovery is just a couple days. Kind of looking forward to that, a little nervous, cause like you said, it's the eye. But I'll get most of my vision back.

What I'll be left with is this. If any of you see the top pic (undistorted view) the same as the bottom pic (distorted view) then I urge you to go get checked asap.
This should be straight lines when viewed from about 14 inches away, one eye at a time.

Guess I am baffled, they can't go fix it, they have to wait for it to fully detach?

 

lol- I grew in Appalachia. I know more about what you're getting into then you think. plus my Cousin married a girl from just across the border from there.

I really don't know. If it never detaches, then i never have to have the operation, which is fine by me.

 

won't the operation fix your vision though?

 

The surgery is quick
It's weird as hell as you're kind of in a dream land but your eyes are wide open with a bright as hell light and you can hear everything...
The worst part for me was I didn't get my coffee in the morning

 

nope. The split in the retina isn't causing any issues, it's just a sign of possible impending detachment. That chick Brenda i dated for awhile had it happen to her and she said it was painless, there was just a flash and then it went dark. She called an ambulance, went to the Eye Center and had it repaired.
The cataracts can be fixed, it's a common procedure. That's just to remove the hazy blockage, mainly in the left eye which I can see light and shapes but forget about reading.
The right eye has them too but not as bad. Essentially the lens is removed and they insert a new lens and restore your vision back to 20/20. With my astigmatism, I'll have good distance vision but will need reading glasses, which I'm totally fine with.
The Macular Degeneration is not curable at this time and everybody with it is essentially a guinea pig. Lasik was used in the beginning to fix it and those that had it done went blind rather fast. It's not done that way anymore. Right now the only treatment is a mix of vitamins called Preservision, that I have to take twice a day for the rest of my days and supposedly it will slow down the process.
The other experimental procedure involves injections in the eye once a month. My mother has that done to her now. It doesn't look pleasant but she says it does help with the blurry line syndrome.
